PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

Hi mate - thanks for the reply.
I rang egg up after reading the advice here and the moment i mentioned ppi to the egg rep on the phone the first thing she asked me was did i want a refund haha.
She said that she would log my complaint and within 8 weeks i would get a decision, today i got the letter saying they were not going to pay up but that i could take this up with the financial ombudsman.
So would you recommend i fill in the forms and send it to ombudsman?
Hi hun
Lol, seems like they are dealing with these complaints all the time then lol.
Right yes now move on to the FOS, check this link here:
http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/consumer/complaints.htm
You can download the form or ring them to send through the post, may I also recommend that you forward a copy of the completed form to EGG, and tell them you have now taken your complaint to the Financial ombudsman service in order for them to investigate, because even if this is with the FOS they may still reconsider, if then successful then let the FOS know.;) Also keep a copy for yourself.
Enclose all copies of any correspondence with the FOS complaint form to the FOS including a copy of the final response.;) (the one that said about the FOS).
Please keep us posted and let us know if you require more help with this.

Hi everyone long time lurker first time poster.
On the advice of martin i contacted Egg for a refund of ppi on a loan i took out in July 2005 via eggs online facilities and am still paying it having never missed a payment.
As soon as i rang egg and mentioned the PPI they reduced my payments by £10 a month for the rest of the duration and said they would investigate as to whether i was owed any backlog money.
Today i recieved a letter stating they would not refund as:
'We do not provide an advisory service, as part of our online sales process. However, prior to submitting your online application, you were asked to read the t's and c's governing this policy and you were required to specifically confirm that you agreed to them'
Therefore egg are saying they are unable to highlight whether or not i was given incorrect information and are refusing to cough up.
Does anyone have any advice that could help? Thanks
Hi. I got a letter from egg saying the same thing last week! My application was also online like yours. Can I ask why you are asking for refund? My reason is because i phoned them before asking if taking out the insurance would help my application as my credit rating was not that hot! Did they send you anything to sign when you took out the loan?0 -
I'm in a similar position with Egg too! They have said that I would have had the opportunity to read over the terms and conditions before completing my online application. I wrote back to them telling them that I had a pre-existing medical condition which effectively rendered their cover useless, and they asked that I send medical evidence of that in for them to consider it further (probably in the hope that i would say, "This is all too much hard work, I'm not going to bother").
Two days ago, I send them a copy of a letter - costing £17.50! - from my GP which confirms that from 1999 until 2005, I was affected by a condition which was on their excluded list.
I wonder where this will go now? Will they turn around and say, "Thanks for the letter, you're still not getting your money", or will they see that I'm being genuine and offer some recompense? I'll be very disappointed if they tell me to take a run and jump after having taken time off to see my GP and get the relevant paperwork, and I'll certainly be asking for the cost of the letter back!
I've already taken one bank to court over PPI (they settled 'goodwill' before it got to court) and I'd happily do so again with Egg if need be. It would be so much easier for all involved if they just gave me the money back - or an offer which suits.Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0 -

Hi, the reason i am asking for the refund is that when i made the application i believed the PPI was just something i had to get in order to get the loan, at no time was there any human interaction to explain that it was not compulsary - believe me if i new it wasnt compulsary i would not have taken it. Also i took the loan out nearly 4 years ago and in all honesty i dont remember having to sign anything i believe it was all done online.
Any how iam going to take the advice from the useful peeps here and go straight to the ombudsman to see if they can help.
One thing that puzzles me is why don't egg just cough up - it must cost them lots in administration and there problem management to sort all the letter sending etc.
Fingers crossed!0 -
Hi all,
I used the template to claim PPI from A&L credit card back in November. I received a letter on December 13th saying that they were investigating and I would hear from them by 5th January.
I haven't heard anything so called them today. Good lord!! If the girl on the phone is always like that, she should be a politician! She seemed to change the story from minute to minute. At one point she started to debate the points in my letter and then seemed to think better of it! She then told me that someone had been looking at my account on the 21st and a letter has been sent to me.
It really doesn't fill you with confidence when you speak to these people and
I fully expect to just receive a standard response now. Very angry! :mad:0 -

Hi there.
Yes I bet you do feel very angry.
You do know you can move on to the FOS if they have not completed your complaint in the 8 weeks they have to respond to you?
Are they sending you another letter ?The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
I'm going to see what this letter says first before I do anything. If it is anything but an offer I will be proceeding to the next stage. Rest assured!!
Thanks for the response.0 -
I would just like to say thankyou to Martin and everyone else who posted messages regarding the above issue on this website. I stumbled upon this website accidently and now can't stop reading all the information on it. I love this site and it is by far the best money saving website on the internet.
I wrote to Halifax after reading the posts and Martins information about reclaiming my loan insurance and to my surprises without any fuss Halifax have agreed to repay £3473 back to me. I have used this money to repay the outstanding amount and now I have repaid my loan 2 years earlier.
Thankyou so much everyone. I have told all my friends and family about this site and like me they are all addicts too.
Regards

:j I have just successfully got £1001.12 offered to me from HSBC after only sending one letter by recorded delivery which cost me about £1. I was claiming back PPI on a HSBC graduate loan which I had repaid early but had not received sufficient money back as the total PPI had been added on at the beginning and i also believed I had been mis-sold and ripped off. I had paid out £768.63 but was also offered 8% interest bringing the total to £1001.12. What a result, and its all because of this site. Thank you so much. I am going to do exactly the same for my mam now as she has got one the same with Halifax.
