Hi, apologies for not getting back to you sooner. I sent my first letter asking for the T&C's of my Loan Agreement (because I'd mislaid mine) and after 4 weeks, numerous phone calls this had still failed to show. So I just went straight ahead with the 1st of Martins pre-filled letters which was sent on the 25/11/08 (remember to send recorded delivery), on the 23/12/08 I received a letter saying they still hadn't resolved the issue and were looking into the matter further and would get back to me within 4 weeks. Today, the 16/1/09 I received the letter saying they have credited back the £1,428.52 into my Loan account. So all in all, minus the annoyance of the T&C's issue it took around 5-6 weeks. Hope this helps.

This helps loads - many thanks!

Isent my first pre-filled letter on about 2nd Jan, then I got a reply (dated 4th Jan) saying they had received the complaint and were looking into it (very standardised letter i.e. they hadn't looked into anything at that point).

Hopefully I may get a reply in the next month or so then! Thanks again!
  • Well Halifax have until Monday to let me know, they are certainly keeping to maximum time on this one, but I am prepared for it to be a no due to my current financial situation with them.

Well got a letter from Halifax today, mind this is my 8 week later and all they can say is my complaint is still being investigated!!!! Looks like I will have to contact FOS.

    Hi Scot
Thanks for keeping us posted on this.

You can as you know now complain to the FOS, download complaint forms from their website, or ring to request them, when you fill them in, get some photocopies done, one for the FOS, one for yourself and another to send to Halifax so they got a copy for their records and interest.

You can tell Halifax in writing that you have enclosed a copy of the FOS complaint form as you believe they have had ample time to investigate your complaint.

This way even though the FOS will investigate, it may make Halifax think and get on with this at the same time, then if you get a good result from Halifax, you can then just the FOS know.

With the form to go to the FOS, also enclose copies of all correspondence received from halifax, and tell them Halifax has not given you a response within the timescale of 8 weeks so you would like them to investigage the complaint for you.;)

If you require further help here Scot, let us know - anytime.

    • What were you reclaiming: Credit Card PPI Mis Sold
    • Who was the provider: EGG
    • How much did you get back: £1246
    • Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Template letter from MSE. They kept me informed along the way by letter but took the full 8 weeks to refund.
I had actually challenged EGG about this some time ago with no luck. Having read the success stories on here I gave it another go with a template letter. With no arguments whatsoever got my refund in full from EGG plus all the interest as claimed. The only thing it cost me was an initial £5 to get full copies of all my statements so that I could submit an accurate and well illustrated claim.

    Hi Mas66,

Glad to see you have won with Egg. I am trying to claim PPI from egg myself but with no joy so far. My application was online and I am sure it used pre ticked boxs for the PPI. Was this your reason for claim?
  • Got home tonight- had a letter from Egg:

'Thanks for your letter, blah blah blah, After carrying out a review I have arranged for a full refund of all card repayment protection charged to your account, together with associated interest.'

    Total amount is £1364!!!!!!!!!!! (6.66% interest) :j

They also refunded £1529 in June as their PPI isn't functional in defaults (i'm in a CCCS plan)!

Brilliant, just Lloyds to sort out now.....!!

This was shortly after the 2nd letter sent ~1 month ago (1st sent in Summer)! :)

Hi, Was your egg card an online application? What reason did you give for refund?

    Thanks Neptune

    Thanks Di,

I have not had time this weekend to check out the FOS website so I will get onto it this week and get everything sent off, I can't believe after 8 weeks Halifax can't make a decision regarding my complaint when they have responded to others quicker.

£989 from Abbey back for PPI on a loan I was told I had to have when I asked "How much is it a month without insurance" "You have to have the insurance" - Clearly NOT thank you ! Great stuff
  • STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING AND READ THIS!!!
On the 4th October 2008 I delivered a MSE templated letter to HSBC bank claiming that I had been miss sold PPI on a personnal loan. On 9th December 2008 I received, without challenge an offer of £10,364.51.
In Sept 02 I took out a personnal loan for £20K over 8 years. I was told that PPI was needed to have the loan offer so I signed. That was miss-selling coupled with the fact that I was a director of a small firm (I could never claim on the policy).
You MUST, MUST, MUST take Martin's advice even if you don't think you could be that lucky. If you suspect you have been mis-sold a protection policy download the letter NOW. With this payment the loan is cleared 2 years early with money left over!
    YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE!!!
