The SAR is in the above post if you miss this, but here is the link below to help you complain and reclaim.

You can still continue with this while your waiting for the SAR documents etc, if you've no account number details for this letter, just add as much info as you can like if the address was different when you had taken out this loan add that as well, your name and date of birth should help as well, but if you've the account number that should be okay.

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance

Check this link out, there is also a template reclaiming letter, write as much as you can with your own reasons to support your complaint.

They have 8 weeks to respond in full, let us know what the outcome is of this so we can help you further if required, hopefully you will be successful first time round.

    Again post by recorded delivery.

    Good luck.;)

  • Well, I’ve heard from the HSBC regarding my PPI claim:

Further to our previous letter and having now completed my investigation into the issues you raised, I am writing to advise you that I will be upholding your complaint

As a result of my decision, it is not my intention to respond specifically to the individual issues that you have raised other than to explain how I intend resolving the matter.

In order to ensure that this matter has not financially disadvantaged you, I propose to offer to unwind your Personal Loan Protection Plan and refund all the premiums you have paid to date (including interest). The amount of this offer is £2,520.41. Details of the offer are shown on the Acceptance of Offer form enclosed.

You should note that this offer includes an element of gross interest amounting to £261.95. Subject to your personal tax status, this may be taxable and should be included in your tax return. If you have any queries regarding this please contact your local HM Revenue and Customs Office (formally the Inland Revenue).

Regrettably, it is not possible to just cancel the Personal Loan Protection Plan. However, it is possible to restructure your existing Personal Loan onto a new loan without protection at the same interest rate and term.

I can confirm that you will shortly be contacted by your Branch to arrange an appointment in order for the necessary paperwork to be completed. It should be noted that if your loan has not been restructured by 28 January 2009 a recalculation will be required, which may affect the redress due.

Should you wish to accept this offer, please complete the Acceptance of Offer form and return it to me using the pre-paid envelope. Please be aware that we cannot pay the redress detailed in this offer until your completed Acceptance Form has been returned and the load and has been restructured without protection. Payment will be made at the earlier opportunity after the loan has been restructured, however, this may take up to 5 working days.

I hope that I have been able to respond to your concerns satisfactorily……..

The rest goes on to say if it hasn’t how I can complain to the Ombudsman etc etc.

I just wanted to check with the ‘calculators’ on here whether HSBC are correct in their calculations. I’m assuming they are and they look okay to me but maths was never my strong subject (probably why I needed the loan in the first place!!!:rotfl: ) and I would like to check that I’m not missing anything that’s supposed to be owed to me.

My loan for £13,000 was taken out in February 2006 at 10.9% for 60 months.
Today charge for loan including PPI and charge for credit, interest etc was £20,593.38 (gulp!!)
The total charge for PPI was £3871.71 or £64.44 over 60 months.
I am currently paying £343.33 per month.
I have as of today 25 payments remaining.
HSBC offering £2,520.41 including £261.95 interest

Thanks in advance for anyone’s help and thanks to Martin and everyone else on this site for the time and help with things. Flushed with success I am now off to dig out an old (finished) Abbey loan from (hopefully me thinks) before 6-years ago to try my luck again!!!!!!!!

    Three cheers for moneysavingexpert!!!
  • What were you reclaiming: Loan PPI
    Who was the provider: Halifax
How much did you get back: To be decided
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: one letter

Took a loan out in 2003 for £12,000 paid back over 4 years totalling £17,300 approx, paid it off six months early. Was sent letter this morning after a 7 week wait that they would put me back in the position I would have been if I had not taken the PPI. They will send me a figure soon and I should be paid within four weeks.

Have checked here for 7 weeks now so if you do succeed pop it here to give others hope.
    Andy

Also got back £1800 from bank charges 2 years ago.
    Thanks Martin
  • Hi

I've been looking through old letters and found a loan agreement that my partner had from 2003 that had over £4k for the insurance. When i said to her she told me she was "advised" that without it she would not be successful in her application. After reading a bit about reclaiming ppi i think she has a case but my question is this. How do you prove that this is what she was told? or is it irrelevant?

    thanks in advance

Here is the link to check this out
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance

There is some interesting PPI info, and a letter template, if any of the information occurs to your partner, write to complain and reclaim.

They have 8 weeks to respond in full, add as much info as possible and post by recorded delivery for proof of posting and to keep a check on the 8 weeks they are entitled to.

If you let us know the outcome of this we can help move this on, if required to the next step.

    Good luck.;)
