I have not had time this weekend to check out the FOS website so I will get onto it this week and get everything sent off, I can't believe after 8 weeks Halifax can't make a decision regarding my complaint when they have responded to others quicker.
I have emailed FOS today (couldnt time at work to phone them), I now await their advice on what I can do next.0 -

Okay hun, let us know what they say and the best of luck!;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
What were you reclaiming: PPI on a Loan
Who was the provider: HSBC
How much did you get back: £2,670.00
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: One message via internet banking (no stamp needed!)
In November 2008 I took out a loan, and when arranging it I asked the woman if I would be able to take out loan protection, at which point she said "sorry no, we arent allowed to offer this anymore", before back tracking and saying "actually, its just something we dont offer anymore".....so i took out the loan without it.
However, after getting off the phone it suddely twigged that i had taken out a loan with HSBC in 2003 in which i remember being told i needed the PPI to secure the loan. Then recalled seeing something on MSE about reclaiming mis-sold PPI on loans so i decided to take a look and that led me to this thread. After digging out all the old paperwork i had for the loan i realised that i had been paying £42 a month PPI on the loan and felt that I'd been pressured into it.
So in November I sent a template letter to HSBC using their online banking system (that way they cant say they didnt receive it in the post!). 4 weeks later i received a letter saying that they were still dealing with my complaint.
Yesterday was 8 weeks and a day since my original complaint message and i phoned the direct line given and was told that someone would be looking into it in the afternoon. So i called back this morning and the kind woman advised me that they have upheld my complaint and will be repaying the mis-sold PPI plus 8% interest - £2,673!!!!!
And I didnt even need the cost of a stamp to do it! All i needed was the template from this site and my orginal paperwork. I'm so happy and cannot fault the way in which HSBC have dealt with my claim.
At the time of taking out my loan in 2003 i was desperate for the money and i felt I had no alternative but to take the PPI or my application would be rejected.
Thanks Martin :money: , thanks to anyone who gave me advice on the letter.

Success (to be confirmed later today!!)
Had a loan with PPI with HSBC - told them I wanted to cancel the PPI - they said no - had to take out fresh loan with them with no PPI - read this website and used template letter requesting payment of all PPI contributions I had made - today was week 8 - rang them up, long wait, told them i would send letter to FO - they confirmed my complaint had been upheld and will ring back today (letter in the post today) confirming this - I caluclate £1,100 should be repaid.
ADVICE - don't be afraid - I still have a loan with HSBC, am overdrawn and also successfully reclaimed £950 in bank charges last year - I genuinely was mis-sold - the fact that I cancelled a loan with HSBC with PPI for one without MAY have helped my claim - MANY THANKS TO ALL - as it happened, the gearbox on my car blew this morning, so now I can pay for it!!! :-)0 -

good luck von....hope you can do them
...i have only just remembered a loan i had with the halifax, i thought it was in the 90's so didnt think i had a claim, but last week, i was clearing out some documents and rubbish, when i found the original loan breakdown paper, the loan was taken out in 2000, but i then found old statements that showed i was still paying the loan in 2003, within the 6 yrs, so i will give it a go in claiming back the mis-sold ppi..... if i dont ask i dont get, got nothing to lose...any sort of win would be a bonus......i have read a few of the replies on here, there seems to be a lot about the 8 weeks time limit the banks have...is that to reply, or to sort out if they will pay out?.......cheers.......good luck all, and well done to those that won

On the 4th October 2008 I delivered a MSE templated letter to HSBC bank claiming that I had been miss sold PPI on a personnal loan. On 9th December 2008 I received, without challenge an offer of £10,364.51.
In Sept 02 I took out a personnal loan for £20K over 8 years. I was told that PPI was needed to have the loan offer so I signed. That was miss-selling coupled with the fact that I was a director of a small firm (I could never claim on the policy).
You MUST, MUST, MUST take Martin's advice even if you don't think you could be that lucky. If you suspect you have been mis-sold a protection policy download the letter NOW. With this payment the loan is cleared 2 years early with money left over!
YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE!!!
wow pauljones,, what a bleeding good result, well done, it just shows you what can be done.....great advice too .......my way of thinkingCorduroy pillows are making headlines! Back home in London now after 27years wait! Duvet know it's Christmas, not original, it's a cover.0 -
Hi, Ok first the good news! My partner had a loan with lombard direct which had ppi we sent the first letter off and after 8 weeks had a reply saying they did not agree that she was mis-sold but out of good will they will refund £750!! Which is fantastic!!!
She also sent off for PPI on her credit card and after 8 weeks we received a letter from hsbc saying they dont agree with our claim and we had lots of time to cancel the PPI so basically if we dont like it go to the ombudsman!! I dont know what to do now,do i send 2nd the letter threatening to go to the ombudsman or should i just go straight there???HELP!!!!0 -

I have just got another letter from Halifax saying that:
In view of the fact that you are a vauled customer, a decision has been made to pay the amount which will put me back in the position I would have been had I not taken PPI. I will received confirmation shortly with the amount and it will be offset against my loan arrears.
I havent had to go to the FOS with this matter and at this moment I am very happy that they have now made a decision on the matter. This is the end of the 8th week :beer:0
