That's correct and is stated at the start of the Guide here:

However before starting the reclaim process there’s one big rule...
If you have received a payout from the insurance, you won’t be able to say the policy was missold.Thrilled to be DEBT-FREE as of 26.03.10

What were you reclaiming: Loan PPI
Who was the provider: EGG
How much did you get back: About £550.00
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: After one letter
And then write your brief reclaim tale:
My husband took out his EGG loan in 2003 paying a small amount each month over 60 months and also took some payment holidays in that time.
However when he took out the loan as he was self-employed he was told that he had to take their ppi fior accident and sickness and therefore assumed that this cover was not optional. After reading Martin's article on this we decided to try and reclaim the ppi so we wrote a letter at the beginning of November and sent it to EGG which they replied to stating that they would be in touch as soon as possible and then last week we found £163 in our bank account from them and when we logged on to the account they have cleared the remaining loan so in total we have had about £550.00 from them however still awaiting a letter from them to confirm this.
Still can't quite believe it thanks MSE.0 -

Hi
Can anyone tell me if you can still reclaim the PPI if you applied online for the credit and ticked the PPI box when applying ? As we had no idea we could have the loan otherwise or could get PPI elswhere ?
Thanks

Hi there.;)
And yes you can try to reclaim PPI no matter how it was sold.;)
Just add as much info as possible to back you case.
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance
Have added this link in case you have not come across it yet, where there is some useful PPI info and a reclaim letter template.
They have 8 weeks to respond in full.
If you let us know the outcome of this we can take it from there to help you to the next step.
Always post by recorded delivery for your proof of posting and to check on the 8 weeks they have.;)
Good luck

I wrote to RBS in about June 2008 using Martins template letters. I wanted the PPI refunding because it was miss sold. It was not given as optional and it was no use either. I followed the procedure and after a final response they still refused to refund saying it was not miss sold. I then went onto the Financial ombudsman site and downloaded a complaint form. I sent the ombudsman copies of my agreement as well as all the letter correspondence. The FO acknowledged my letter. Just before Christmas 08 i got a letter of the ombudman saying RBS wanted to offer " as a goodwill gesture" full refund of all ppi installments, full refund of interest applied to the installments and 8% statutory interest from date of money being taken to date i get cheque refund. YIPEEEE!!!! :jMY Successes = RBS PPI, RBS bank charges, Aqua PPI, Aqua cc charges, HFC PPI, Welcome Finance PPI, Blackhorse PPI Mums Ongoing= Swift Advances PPI, London Scottish PPI, Blackhorse chgs, GE money pyts missing

Hi Again sorry iv not been updating my successes slap my wrist...
I had another lovely winfall at the end of 08 leaving me with NO CREDIT CARD DEBT!!! YIPEE
I wrote to Aqua card services/Halifax card services (rip off 35%!!!!) back in about May 08. I had requested copies of all my card statements with the aim of claiming back charges but noticed they were taking varying amounts each month going back to about 2004 for card protection!!! anything from 3-10quid a month. I had no idea what it was so initially rang them. Oh Yes it was the same as the dreaded PPI.
I got onto this site and used Martin and the other experts Fab template letters. Just follow the steps.... It was strange, i got a final response saying it was not miss sold blah blah blah. so i wrote once more with a copy of my Financial Ombudsman complaint form completed (as you do gives them a shock n u mean business) and low and behold i got a letter saying "they had investigated and could find no record of me ever requesting PPI be added" they fully refunded all the pyts made and the interest paid back against my bill (which i agreed to, you are entitled to a cheque if you want instead but i want to be debt free). The refund of the PPI only left the credit card bill at a few quid which i have since cleared.
Anyone need help on this give me shout.... remember it takes time and frustration but stick at it they will cave follow the steps:jMY Successes = RBS PPI, RBS bank charges, Aqua PPI, Aqua cc charges, HFC PPI, Welcome Finance PPI, Blackhorse PPI Mums Ongoing= Swift Advances PPI, London Scottish PPI, Blackhorse chgs, GE money pyts missing
