Originally wrote to hsbc in March 2010 to reclaim ppi. Got declined and referred to fos in July 2010. adjudicator agreed and advised hsbc to pay up in November 2010 but they still refused. Was passed to obudsman who didn't seem to be doing anything with it.
After reading on this site that somebody had written to the ceo of hsbc I decided to email them, also putting in the complaint about the poor service I received when closing the loan.
Within 2 weeks of sending the email, I have had a letter from the obudsman saying hsbc will settle and that they will also pay back the ppi on 2 other loans which i didn't even know i had plus £50 compensation. In total just over £10,000!!!!!:T
Thank you so much0 -
Debenhams / GE Money / Santander / Genworth Finance Update......
Debenhams card taken out in 2002, complained to Santander late April which was rejected within a week, FLA totally useless, Santander rejected FOS approach, FOS writes to Finance Insurance Co. Ltd (Genworth) the underwriter on 30th. June, Genworth replies that they are not responsible!!!!
So in summary, Debenhams not responsible, Santander the agent not responsible and Genworth the underwriter not responsible!! It's liKe pass the ppi parcel and see who gets the problem when the music stops. Back to the FOS next week and see what happens next! It's beginning to feel like a cartel, a closed shop where no one is to blame and everyone wins except the humble customer
MESSAGE TO SELF - DO NOT EVER TAKE OUT STORE CARDS OR SUPERMARKET CARDS 'CAUSE YOU DO NOT KNOW WHO WILL BE RESPONSIBLE OR WHO YOU ARE PAYING
Better news, HSBC have been very good and settled my claim, so just this one left now
First of all well done on your HSBC success.
Sorry about the other, and I know exactly how you feel.
It is actually the FOS idea to go the underwriter/insurer direction when your unable to pursue the broker for various reasons, and yet we know its highly likely the insurer will not accept any liability.
However, the FOS should therefore look closer into this now and not push it away, as they are also trying to make them responsible as well.
Apparently the FSCS have mentioned about this as well.
Let us know how you get on with the FOS, good luck.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

I sent off my FOS Questionnaire yesterday against the Underwriters too. I actually feel Santander took over G E Money, so the onus is on them - I will keep you updated too with regard to how I get along.0 -

Interesting....
Just had a phone call from Egg further to my emails!
They have decided that after reviewing my claim they WILL be upholding my claim!!!!!
They sent me a letter dated yesterday with the breakdown of my settlement figure but should be around £4000 (will have to check the amount once I receive the breakdown. He did say that they couldn't tell me when I should actually get the cheque as they are working though claims in order but I my claim IS UPHELD!
He also did say that Bert Pijls isn't actually the CEO of Egg anymore, not sure who is then but he's been getting a fair few emails it would appear...hee hee!

Turned down last week by M&S money for PPI on a loan put on hold due to JR. Received a letter last week saying they couldn't find any paperwork about PPI or loan amount. I had one loan update which did not give much information and did not show any breakdown of how the amount was made up. The information it contained was what I had already given them with dates, payments etc.
I sent an email with the points I wished to make and today have received a letter thanking me for the further information I was able to provide and refunding a total of £3,071.43 (PPI of £1341.43 plus interest). Amazing how the paperwork suddenly appeared.
I had sent off a SAR to them to see what I could find out. I do have one other old loan dating back to mid 1990s that I have no paperwork for so if it gives that information will pursue that as well.
So far I have had 9 claims upheld, am waiting on three with the barclays "no quibble" refunds and have one with Citifinancial, passed to Opus, placed on hold for JR and that I cannot get a response to. Have cleared all my credit cards and am hoping the Barclays refunds will clear my 2 loan balances. Feels absolutely brilliant.0 -

That is so fab!!:j:T:T great news that and a lovely surprise, it just goes to show doesn't it? keeping at them it can work.

Just had a call from Citi Financial to tell me my claim has been upheld and a cheque will be with me within the next 10 days
Not sure how they've calculated the amount though as its quite a bit less than I calculated but its still a significant amount of money - £5,765 to be exact. I'll be double-checking their calcs though, just in case they've made an 'accidental error'.
For anyone else trying to deal with Citi I found the telephone number 0800146188 very useful this morning - I got straight through to the team dealing with PPI claims on that number. Its amazing how these banks can't even do simple calculations correctly..............0
