Hi - came home from work today to a shock letter from HSBC!!! I wasnt expecting anything from them until 14/7/11 as that was the next date I was due an update, and then was only expecting a "8 more weeks" type letter but they have made me an offer! They said they are only going back 6 years and if I had any statements or proof this account went on longer they would look at it!! But alas I havent (account was opened around 1999/2000 but dont keep statements) but nevermind - its all money we wouldnt have had if it hadnt been for Martin Lewis and this site. They have offered me £1430 - which is very nice thank you HSBC!!!

I am wondering though they have asked which bank account I want this money paid into (I requested my HSBC bank account cos I thought it might go in quicker) but I do wonder if they will pay off some arrears on the credit card and not put it into my bank. I am hoping that with them asking about which account I want it in they might pay it straight in to my account - we could just do with a bit of spare money at the moment with husband being on short time working, etc.

Anyway I am pleased we have got our first offer and sooner than expected!!! Thanks everyone fo your help. I will keep you informed of the rest of our claims.

By the way I signed the form and went straight out again to post it off!!! Then afterwards I thought maybe I should have sent it recorded but the post office would have shut by then and the post box I put it in had a late pick up!!

    Great stuf

    Well done you. :T:T

Yes you can, just put a letter in and give Martin 8 weeks to respond
Although he may get the extension from FSA and you may have to wait longer :rotfl::rotfl:;) keep at it though :D

    Hi Mrs I!

How long ago did you hold the Halifax account?

I would be inclined to post a SAR to both Beneficial and Halifax - it's got to be worth £20 in SAR fees to get a stab and what is probably worth a few £k to you (especially with 8% interest for all that time!)

Obviously it will help in both cases if you have the account number (maybe you have it for Halifax only - you could still get statements that might show the Beneficial account number next to the amount being deducted via Direct Debit each month?)

I know for a fact Beneficial (Now HFC/HSBC) hold data at least as far back as March 1997 (and probably a whole lot further)

    Beneficial SAR address:

    PO Box 5137
    Coventry
    CV3 9EP

Thanks for this I was told only yesterday that they only go back 6 years and the idiot I spoke to yesterday said there was nothing on the computer!!!!! Computer says NO..:mad:i think not I will be back on to them..another one I forgot about.

SUCCESS!! I didn't think I'd ever fallen for PPI, but had a look through old statements and discovered that I was paying it on an old Abbey credit card from 2004-2006. I'd since fallen into financial hardship, and closed the account with a short-settlement and so didn't think I'd ever get anything back. I had ALL my old statements though, and meticulously calculated everything that I'd paid in PPI, and speculatively filled in the form on this site and sent it to Santander.

Got my reply this morning, and they have upheld my complaint, and are giving me a refund of over £3000! Great news as I'm getting married in 2 days! Honeymoon here I come! :-D

That is absolutely fantastic.. great news. :j:beer:

Have a lovely wedding and a fantastic honeymoon wherever you go. Wishing you all the happiness for the future:D

I sent my husbands complaint initially to MBNA (also an old Abbey Credit Card) on 13th June, to date have heard nothing, so I resent all the information on Monday and emailed their CEO to ask him what the delay was in acknowledging my original complaint, no reply from him.
I have a complaint lodged with them myself for an old Alliance and Leicester Credit Card, (I had originally posted it to Santander but when I obtained the free 30 day credit report it is showing as MBNA not Santander????) I got it registered by telephone last Friday and they said someone would call me and do it over the phone I didn't need to put anything in writing. I have heard nothing from them so rang them this afternoon and was told such is the volume of complaints at present it's taking them a while longer to work through them but someone will be in touch with me before the 19th July.

I think this is beginning to take over my life, much to the amusement of my husband I am running about with a large folder full of info and complaints!! He thinks I'm mad and we will never get anything back!!

You will have the last laugh LynK I am sure and then he will want some. Good luck;)

Wow! Brilliant news, when did you submit your complaint to HSBC? I've got a loan and a CC complaint with them which they received on 27th April. I did receive a letter stating that my loan ppi would be resolved by 22/07 but I chased it again today and the HSBC Complaint Team couldn't find it on my records and virtually said no such letter exists! I'll fax it to them tomorrow and see just what is going on

    Well done again!

I sent it off about 12th April 2011. I was very shocked to be honest as the last letter I got, dated 16th June, said they would aim to supply me with a response by 14th July and hey presto I get a respose on the 6th July!!!

Egg were supposed to have replied by today but nothing from them yet!!!

    Hi Dizzy
    :T
Well done on the First win:j:j:j
But have HSBC been honestwith you ?
If you have held an account with them since 1999 why can't they find any record of it ?
Call me cynical but the if first six years of the account were the same as the last the've still got at least £1430 of your money.

When I tried to claim off Capital One going back to 2001 giving them my account number they were able to send me two days later, a copy of my application form from 1999 showing I ticked the box for PPI so they rejected my claim.

Thanks to them they have now given me the proof of who I was working for at the time which proves that the PPI was missold its now with the FOS :beer:

The point I am trying to make is that surprisingly banks can find all sorts of information to prove they don't have to pay us, but when they do have to pay us they can only find information going back six years.

Is it worth investing £10 on a SAR request to HSBC to get hold of the MISSING ? information, according to your letter they say they will look at it again if you can prove it was in existance earlier.

£10 to win another £1430 looks a good punt to me ;)

I requested all my information via a SAR from Nat West but they still only supplied me with information going back 6 years, so I thought that is all HSBC would be able to do. The offer states that I had 6 weeks to accept it and if I had done the SAR thing the 6 weeks might have been up before it was sorted and I may have lost out. I just think £1430 is not to be sneezed at and its money we wouldnt have had if it wasnt for this web site.

Everyone on here are so amazingly helpful!
  • you would of thought you would of heard of a lot of successes but alls a little too quiet!

hoping it wasnt a pr stunt to give them some positive press and stop the public from kicking off

all the best with your 3 compliants :D:D;):D:D

I spoke to someone at Barclays last week and they told me that the people who are in line for their claims being upheld before 31st August would all receive their offers together, about 4 weeks after receiving their first letter. But I dont know how correct this was as someone else told me they were doing them in order and I would be at the end as mine wasnt submitted until early April. But the way things are looking at the moment it looks like the first person was maybe correct.

Thanks so much for that info Dizzy:)

My HSBC complaint was sent 26th April and the third letter I received stated I would have a response by the 22nd July, the letter was dated the 24th. June. However, my telephone calls to the HSBC Regulated Sales Complaint Team discovered that the latest update indicated that it will now run the full 16 weeks. Why give a customer a date when they had no intentions to achieve a response by that date, it just compounds the frustration even more. Their excuse was the extension granted by the FSA to 16 weeks but this was granted on the 15th. June, some 9 days before the letter was sent on the 24th. June. They actually stated that only standard template letters without specific dates were being sent out but this certainly is not the case as both you and I have received letters with response dates. It's all very misleading and further adds to the disappointment of having to complain about their service in the first place. I've sent the Managing Director an e-mail outlining my frustration and disapppointing in sending false information regarding the timescale of response.
Well done again on your news and thanks for enlightening me:)
