  • I used the template letter to reclaim PPI for Alliance and Leicester and posted the letter to them on 3rd November stating that I was reclaiming because they had been fined for mis-selling. Yesterday the 13th November I received a letter from them offering me the full amount due plus interest at 8% totalling £2,300. I am gobsmacked at how simple it was. Thank you Martin Lewis. I also reclaimed over £5,000 in bank charges from the Royal Bank of Scotland last year so if you are thinking about it then just do it. You have nothing to lose but the cost of stamp.
  • Thank you Martin!

Following your publicity of this issue I downloaded your template letter and sent it off to Alliance & Leicester to reclaim PPI on a loan I took out with them. The loan was set up outside of the period for which they have been fined but I thought it was worth claiming because I remembered the attitude of their telephone salesperson to the PPI, although I did not think there was any redress until reading your guide.

Imagine my delight on receiving a letter from them yesterday, under a month after I first wrote to them, offering to refund all the PPI payments to date, along with interest at 8%, a total of £1556.82!

I would urge anyone who thinks they may have been missold PPI to reclaim: it's very simple and there's nothing to lose.

    Keep up the good work!

    Hi all and marshallka,

    Here's my secured loan statement.

This is the settlement figure I've got from Halifax:

Refund of premium paid to date =£187.44
Interest for compensation at 8% =£70.78
    Total =£258.22

I hope you can have a go at this figures for me. Once again thank you very much.
Hi, I have just taken a look at this one and it looks like this is not a single premium unless its actually within loan amount of £8579.00..The repayments made by you are right in that they total 190.44 and they have 187.44 so only £3.00 out.

Can you confirm this was not a single premium and only an amount paid each month instead?

If this is the case then this one is correct...;) .
  • Hello all, I wonder if you could advise me on this.
I have just received a letter from the FOS stating that Barclays have informed them that they "have been unable to locate my records from the information provided thus far". They have asked me to provide further information to "help Barclays Bank Plc locate my details" such as a copy of the original application form, a statement which demonstrates the PPI payments being made or documents which confirm the account details to ensure they have the correct information. I have previously provided them with photocopiess of the loan agreement and the PPI amount charged and since the current account I had with Barclays was only closed last year I am amazed that a multi-national organisation such as Barclays has such poor record keeping.
What would be the best way to proceed??
Any advice would be very welcome.

Looking at my loan statement (as this is the only document at hand) I don't think it was a single premium. Once again thank you very much and I do appreciate so much the time and effort you spend on looking all these complicated calculations.
  • I sent off the first template letter to HSBC in September and recieved a standard acknowledgement letter then nothing until the very last day of the deadline. Yesterday I recieved a letter offering £3,026 and an appointment with the bank to restructure the rest of the loan. It seems too good to be true, I can't thank this site enough.
Won 2 tickets to Cargo, drum&bass concert -
    AM STILL IN SHOCK!!!!
  • I tried to claim on PPI once, due to unemployment called 3 times and the forms never arrived
  • Hi

I rang to claim back my PPI on my BOS account. I said I didnt sign anything to set it up and wanted proof of my authorisation. They sent me a letter saying they were looking into it and then a letter saying a cheque was on its way for nearly 2k from over 6 years! BUT!!! then I got a letter from them saying my credit card was due to expire end Nov and they wouldnt be issuing me with another one! How can they do this? I rang customer services who said I had a very good credit rating and they couldnt understand this?! I had just cleared my card bout a month earlier and sometimes was in credit.

Anybody any ideas why this was done? I got a copy of my credit file and there is no defaults or anything strange on it!

    TIA
    oooooooh i luv a bargain :)

    Hi Deb
Some mixed feelings here on this then?
Good news on the money back though....... , well done with that, but I would recommend you ask for a copy of the written breakdown to make sure what your having back is the right amount with stat interest.;)
They cannot refuse to pay it out now, not even if its more they owe, it may be correct but if I were you I would want to make sure its the correct amount.

Keep your letter handy about what they said about not issuing you with a new credit card.
    Have they explained why?

If you don't mind me asking, but do you really need a credit card now hun ?
I know what you mean though, your asking if this is wrong of them doing this.
I would ask them to explain, because I know by having a credit card even if you do not use it - it helps with the credit rating, so in my own personal opinion if they have not explained the reason why and they are just doing this because of what you have done by reclaiming etc, to me this is wrong and another case for the FOS to deal with as a separate complaint.

Good luck in this hun, so all you have to do here is:

Request for them to post a copy of a written breakdown of calculations.
And write to them in a separate letter for an explanation of why they will be no longer issuing you with a new credit card.

Please keep us posted hunni and good luck.;)

I would call this retaliatory action and they are in breach of the FSA "treating customers fairly". Make a complaint about it to the FSA and write to them informing them that you are doing so. This could be more damaging to them if they are doing this out of retaliation than you actually claiming back the PPI. They should have good reason to close your account and they clearly have not from what you say.
