PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

I applied for a loan with Halifax back in 2004 for £17500.00. I was told that to have the loan I needed to take the PPI, which was added at the outset to the loan taking it up to £21650.00 over 7 years.
After hearing you on GMTV advising that this was wrong, I wrote to the Halifax. They returned a letter stating that there was no evidence of missselling, so I wrote to them again, explaining that the info was given verbally. They never responded so I wrote to the financial ombudsman, who agreed to take up my case.
It has taken a few months, but I have now had a letter back confirming that Halifax are looking to settle my claim!! Not sure on exact figures at the moment, but am expecting to get back around £4.5k!!
For all of you out there who have had back negative responses from the organisations - DON'T GIVE UP!!:rotfl: :j0 -

Has anyone had any dealings with the above companies? I really want to find out how long their took before they paid out any monies.
I have a claim going on with them which I have done via a solictor and this month will make it 1 year. I would like to get some monies before Xmas which would be nice, however they both just seems to be dragging their feets and not supplying all documention that has been requested from them
Has anyone been successfully with either GE Money or Swift Advance
Please let me know
Thanks in advance0 -
Hi I posted this yesterday on the reclaiming threead, but maybe it should have been here.
Hi,
I am a serial lurker on these boards and I don't think I have posted anything before but I just had to after recieving a letter from the Alliance and Leicester this morning. My ex parttner and I took out a loan in 2002 with them and were told, like so many others that we had to take PPI to get the loan. We payed off the loan in 2007. When I read about the PPI reclaiming on MSE a couple of weeks ago I decided to try and reclaim. I phoned them and explained what had happened and they said (of course) that they had logged the call and would look into it. I then got my ex partner to do the same thing.
I have since then read a few things saying that it is more difficult to reclaim anything paid before 2005. So I didn't hold out much hope. But this morning I recieved a letter offering us £2455.88 as a refund. That's £1828.20 in premiums and £627.68 in interest at 8%. I am so pleased!
I have to sign a form saying I will not take any further action, which makes me wonder what i could get if I did. But to be honest I'm not going to take the risk. Even though I only get half of it (my ex gets the other half) it's money I desperately need right now.
I hope everyone elses reclaims are successful0 -
RE: GE MONEY
hi massive, am also having problems with GE Money. I too have been claiming via a solicitor and GE are just not responding. My solicitors have given them extended time but GE are ignoring all requests. I have 2 complaints with them and mine have been ongoing since april. I was initially given a timescale of approx 6-9 months. although this was approx I don't forsee an outcome for quite some time. It's very disappointing as i'm in financial difficulty and could really do with the money.
good luck with yours massive and keep us updated as I will also.0 -

Are you claiming PPI back or contesting the actual loan:mad:0 -
This is to say a huge thank you to everyone that helped me on this site.
I reclaimed my PPI for a loan from Lloyds TSB. I wrote 2 letters the first was the excellent template from this site and the second was a response regarding 'age' and 'illnesses'.
I have had a response from Lloyds TSB today and we have successfully claimed back £2076.82 plus interest accrued.
Both myself and my husband are extremely happy and again would like to thank you all.
We first wrote to Lloyds TSB to claim back our PPI as we only have a small amount left to pay to be totally debt free. The response from Lloyds TSB was not what we expected, but they wanted further details based on my husbands age and what specific illnesses he had when we took out the loan. We explained that my husband was 64 when the loan was taken out and at the age of 65 the terms and conditions changed, however we were not made aware of this, we were also not told about not being able to claim for any of my husbands exsiting medical conditions....so based on this we have managed to be successful in this claim.
Thank you all again...we are now soooo happy and only owe now £138 to be completely debt free.0 -

Am sooooo pleased for you well done. There have been queries about Lloyds paying out. You have proved that they do

Would just like to post my results for claiming back the PPI + interest on 2 loans with Egg.
About 3 years ago myself and my other half each took Egg loans out and the person at the other end of the phone insisted we wouldn't get the loan unless we protected it with PPI. I had also settled my loan early as I moved to a cheaper loan elsewhere but the OH is still paying for hers.
After submitting 2 separate letters about 3 weeks ago Egg have agreed the PPI was mis-sold and have refunded both of us a grand total of £1460... Egg have been very efficient at keeping us informed, couldn't be happier with their service there.
Thank you MSE and everyone here for giving us the motivation to reclaim what was mis-sold to us in the first place. Thanks! :beer:0 -

That's good to know as I'm just starting on the case of getting a refund with Egg - I too was told over the phone that I HAD to have the PPI.0
