    Dear MoneySavingExpert,

We had paid our Alliance & Leicester credit card off with a lump sum, by cheque, after getting a final figure from MBNA.

However, from the time of sending and MBNA receiving the cheque, interest had accrued on the account, which we weren't prepared to pay.

Having seen Martin on Daybreak informing people of their right to clain back PPI, we decided to do it ourselves, as it appeared we had also been 'mis-sold' this insurance.

We were threatened on more than one occasion with bailiffs and bad debt lists but knowing Martin is a whizz with these matters we stuck to our guns and we received a snotty letter and a cheque for £5630.00!!

Just a big thank you to you guys, carry on the good work, and power to the people!!!:)

    Billy & Wendy Brown

    :j:j What a result !! :T:T:T

How on earth do you know if you have ppi on a credit card, none of the statements mention it.
  • Just remembered to let you all know too - one of my sons had a Capital One credit card, which he didnt really ever use, just got it in case of emergency really!! Well he sent off one of the FOS questionnairs to them, just about three or four weeks ago (didnt really expect anything at all!) and he got a letter yesterday saying that they are going to pay him what he is owed and thats a whole £30!!! As he said he knows its not much but its better in his bank than theirs and it only cost him a stamp!!! So even Capital One are paying out now.

I just wish mine would hurry up and sort them all out!!

    Hi
After reading on here about someone looking at their credit files on Equifax I decided to look at mine and found a couple of loans that I had forgotten about, and were both paid off in full around September 2005. I presume that if I did have PPI on these I am still within the time scale to claim it back! The problem is I cant remember if I did have this on these loans - if I did I shouldnt have as I am covered through work, etc. What do you suggest I do next - the report only gave me the last 4 account numbers on one and no account numbers at all on the other one. I do have the dates the accounts were open and closed.

Should I just write or should I send a £10 cheque for the SARs request thingy. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Hi there

If any of them are with your bank, call in as a first suggestion, this way is free, they will just use your normal bank number to check all accounts you have taken out with them.

Another way is write a simple letter, enclose £1 cheque or postal order, ask them to provide you with a copy of the loan agreement (and if no loan number to give, then give them as many details as possible in order to make it easier to track down your accounts.

Or as you said a SAR.

And also another way to check loan account numbers would be to check the bank statements where you were paying the loan payments from, the acc numbers are normally shown next to the loan monthly repayment, if you bank online, this may allow you to go back as far as 2002.

    Hope this helps.;)

    Hiya

Write to ask them to supply you with a copy of the CC agreement by 12 days and enclose £1 cheque or postal order.
Any details of PPI are enclosed on the agreement.;)

Had an offer from MBNA which I accepted and they said they would clear my credit card (even though never late with a payment) and send me the balance. However, I have received the cheque for the balance but they have not paid anything to my credit card account. Rang them yesterday and they said they had sent me the total amount, which I disputed as I have the cheque and their original letter in front of me.
Problem is I now have to pay the cc by the due date, otherwise will have further charges applied. Also interest is being added to the amount owed.
Is nothing ever straight forward with Banks?

    Hiya
It doesn't seem like it does it?
I think because they have so many to do, they don't know what they're doing.
Hope its sorted soon though, fingers crossed x
