  • Dear MoneySavingExpert,

We had paid our Alliance & Leicester credit card off with a lump sum, by cheque, after getting a final figure from MBNA.

However, from the time of sending and MBNA receiving the cheque, interest had accrued on the account, which we weren't prepared to pay.

Having seen Martin on Daybreak informing people of their right to clain back PPI, we decided to do it ourselves, as it appeared we had also been 'mis-sold' this insurance.

We were threatened on more than one occasion with bailiffs and bad debt lists but knowing Martin is a whizz with these matters we stuck to our guns and we received a snotty letter and a cheque for £5630.00!!

Just a big thank you to you guys, carry on the good work, and power to the people!!!:)

Thought I may as well add my success story with HFC BANK-currently have a loan for about 1200 quid with PPI which was about a tenner a month or thereabouts dating back to 2002.Used the template form here and sent by recorded delivery on 9th May,received standard acknowledgement of receipt a week later.Received a letter yesterday upholding my appeal and refunding just over 4 grand-all I had to do was send back a form of acceptance and the money will be credited to my bank account, hopefully it wont take too long for that.
Was amazed at how quickly it was dealt with to be honest-expected at least 6 weeks.
Still got a couple other complaints in,but yet to hear anything back yet.
Couldnt have come at a better time as overtime is scarce just now and things are a bit tiight.

can i ask do you mean the original amount you took out with the hfc loan was £1200 and you had a refund of £4000? i only ask as i had a loan of £7000 over 7 years paid back £14000 :(
  • Hi
After reading on here about someone looking at their credit files on Equifax I decided to look at mine and found a couple of loans that I had forgotten about, and were both paid off in full around September 2005. I presume that if I did have PPI on these I am still within the time scale to claim it back! The problem is I cant remember if I did have this on these loans - if I did I shouldnt have as I am covered through work, etc. What do you suggest I do next - the report only gave me the last 4 account numbers on one and no account numbers at all on the other one. I do have the dates the accounts were open and closed.

Should I just write or should I send a £10 cheque for the SARs request thingy. Any advice would be appreciated.
