I just want to update everyone that upon checking my halifax account yesterday I can confirm that my PPI refund has already paid.:j Now I'm going to start my second round of letter sending to halifax.

Hats off to MARSHALLKA for your continued patience, perseverance and motivational skills.:A

A lot of those people in here especially in the loans forum need a bit of pushing and encouragement. That's why by posting my progress in here hopefully it will help other members and visitors to this site to carry on with their on fight on reclaiming their missold PPI and just don't give up. Not doing anything is conceding defeat.

    Hello all

What a fantastic site this is!

We used Martin's template in March 2008 to complain about our PPI premium that Central Trust Plc/FP applied ...eventually went to FOS in June 2008. We have just received a letter from FOS upholding our complaint against Central Trust Plc/FP and that 'the business has responded by saying that it agrees to settle the complaint in line with my (FOS Adjudicator) recommendations'

The FOS letter upholds our complaint that we were 'MISSOLD' PPI which included a direct, unrelentless and aggressive marketing tactic and consequently FOS has stated that Central Trust Plc/FP 'should pay redress to "us" with the intention of putting them as closely as is practicable in the position they would have been in had the PPI policy not been sold'.

The FOS has given a date of 30 October 2008 for us to return Settlement Form to them. We are supposed to be receiving a note showing how Central Trust Plc/FP has calculated the refund amount...which we have not yet received. Watch this space!

A big thank you to you all on the forums and the PPI threads for sharing your experiences and expertise with us...especially to me 'normal Josephine Bloggs in the street' and for fighting this form of PPI injustice.

Thanks to you all again and to MARTIN :A

  • Hi all

I'm new to this site and really pleased to read all the success stories.

I would really appreciate some advice on 2 loans I have/had, first one was with the Co-op which I took out in 1999 and finished 2006, when I took the PPI I can't ever remember being explained the full cover and what I was paying it for, I still have the loan agreement and it shows the cover in lump some but I have no idea what I was paying monthly for it and I had no idea that I had the right to cancel it.

My second loan is with the abbey national which was taken in 2001 and is due to end March next year, again I was never fully explained what the cover was for and I thought I had to take it and yet again I was never told that I had the option to cancel the policy.

Soooo do I have grounds to try to claim it back for it being mis-sold to me.

On both loans I can't ever recall being asked any questions like any existing medical conditions etc although it was a long time ago.

Any advice would be very very welcome

I started a claim with Central Trust 18th August.
I took a loan out with them in Dec 2003 for 15,000 the PPI was 2422.49. They have written to me to say that at this time my PPI was not regrulated with the FSA and that they sent me insurance documentation and that it would be down to me to check that this policy was suitable for my needs. They are therefore not paying out for this PPI. I have looked at my documation and do not have any insurance policy details. Don't know where to go with this one.
I took another loan with them in May 2006 for 17,000 the PPI was 2735.89. They have offered me a full refund for this as their CAM did not ask the correct questions.
I don't know if this is a success or failure!!! I don't know wether to accept or refuse this offer???

    Hi there.

Want to report my success against barclays bank.

This was for an unsecured loan ppi.

    PPI premium refund £738.86
Less early settlement refund of £419.42
    PPI interest £108.56
    8% Interest £ 79.72

    TOTAL REFUND £507.72

Had to go to financial ombudsman and took a few months but well worth the wait.

Thank you martin and everyone on this site for your very valuable advice.
  • What were you reclaiming: PPI on two old loans, one live loan and an old credit card, all unsecured
Who was the provider: Bank of Scotland/Halifax
How much did you get back: £8,182.51...so far!
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Financial Ombudsman

First let me say Martin - you should be knighted and I owe you at least a hug and a pint! :T

For anyone else out there thinking about giving this a go - go for it.

I took out my first loan with BOS in about 2002 as a silly young thing and fell into the trap of consolidating loan after loan in ever increasing amounts.

Each time I was sold PPI and didn't think to question it until I read about its uselessness on this wonderful site.

I realised that should I ever fall ill I'd never get a payout (asthma, bad joints, depression, etc) and my health status was never discussed when I applied for my loans.

I wrote my first letter (using Martin's template) in around Feb 2008 to ask BOS for my PPI to be stopped and for me to get my premiums refunded.
A few days later I got a firm 'no' reply to the refund aspect.

A bit defeated I thought I may as well try template two but didn't expect anything.
Sure enough another 'no' response came through.

I gave the Financial Ombudsman a go but honestly admitted defeat by then.

Letter after letter came from them saying how busy they were and how they would get to me eventually.

Months passed and I had almost forgotten about it all when I had a letter from the FO in July 08.

The letter was a pack including letters beween the FO and Bank of Scotland and the upshot was the FO took my side!

The Bank of Scotland was told to give me back premiums paid together with interest at 8% and the BOS sheepishly agreed to it 'as a gesture of goodwill'.

I had to sign a letter saying i accepted this settlement and had to send that back to the FO - i did this by special delivery.

This was the point where I had to turn the tables on Bank of Scotland with several 'where's my money?' phone calls.
They definitely dragged their feet when it came to paying up but I found pestering them seemed to work - any letters i sent went by special delivery too.

I'm now waiting for one last cheque and it'll all be over but here's what I've had and banked for the initial price of 3 stamps

    Dead loan 1: Refunded £1098.34 + 8% interest of £488.79

Dead loan 2: Refunded £641.85 + 8% interest yet to come

Currently Active Loan 1: Refunded £4723.55 + 8% interest of £843.47 plus remaining repayments reduced by £70 a month 'for demonstrating good account behaviour' with no change to number of months left to pay

    Dead Credit Card:Refunded £284.49 + 8% of £102.02

For the cheque in the £4000 region I had to call and double check as I thought it was a mistake - it wasn't! :j

I'm so happy - all I can say is go for it - seriously you wont regret it.
Just have patience as the banks and FO are snowed under as more and more people cotton on. They will get to you eventually though.

If anyone wants any pointers or advice on dealing with BOS just shout - I have lots of direct numbers for the rare handful of people who seem to be useful there!

Thanks again Martin - you are an angel :A
  • First of all this is our First post, but my wife and i are no stranger to the site and we have certainly saved alof of our cash due to this fantastic site.

my point for this PPI forum is the following

I took a car loan out with GE Money via Carcraft in Sheffield in 2006 august.
If anyone has been to said car dealer they are extremely pushy, but we needed a car and settled on an Astra.
They sorted out all finance there and then but the finance guy was very pushy and from what we realise now very descreet about the insurance on the loan.

    details as follows

    Cash Loan
    Insurance Loan
    Total
    Amount Of Loan
    8495
    1795
    10290
    Total Amount To Pay----14459.17
    3055.23
    17514.40
    Payable by 60 Monthly
    Payments consisting of
    First payment
    361.17
    76.32
    437.49
    58 payments of
    216.70
    45.79
    262.49
    final payment
    291.00
    61.49
    352.49

from the above i assume i did not need the insurance premium added but until recently because of this website we did ot realise this

we have recently settled the full amount by switching to a better loan with our bank account, so we got a little of the balance.

i hope some one out there can shed a positive light on this, i.e can we claim?

ive got a letter waiting to go as soon as possible if we have a claim.

    thanks again
