I have now sent my follow up letter to Halifax armed with marshallka's calculation inquiring about the discrepancy on their settlement figure of my PPI. I have now safely moved our refund to a high interest savings account.

First of all this is our First post, but my wife and i are no stranger to the site and we have certainly saved alof of our cash due to this fantastic site.

my point for this PPI forum is the following

I took a car loan out with GE Money via Carcraft in Sheffield in 2006 august.
If anyone has been to said car dealer they are extremely pushy, but we needed a car and settled on an Astra.
They sorted out all finance there and then but the finance guy was very pushy and from what we realise now very descreet about the insurance on the loan.

    details as follows

    Cash Loan
    Insurance Loan
    Total
    Amount Of Loan
    8495
    1795
    10290
    Total Amount To Pay----14459.17
    3055.23
    17514.40
    Payable by 60 Monthly
    Payments consisting of
    First payment
    361.17
    76.32
    437.49
    58 payments of
    216.70
    45.79
    262.49
    final payment
    291.00
    61.49
    352.49

from the above i assume i did not need the insurance premium added but until recently because of this website we did ot realise this

we have recently settled the full amount by switching to a better loan with our bank account, so we got a little of the balance.

i hope some one out there can shed a positive light on this, i.e can we claim?

ive got a letter waiting to go as soon as possible if we have a claim.

    thanks again
You would be better off putting this on the discussion thread rather than here and someone lots who can help will do.

You do look to have a claim if you were not given this as a choice. Also the claim goes to the company that sold the PPI to you and not GE themselves.
  • I sent a letter to Capital One re PPI and got a phone call a week later saying that the terms of the PPI were written in the Terms & Condtions (they have to get a dig in if theyre admitting defeat, dont they??) but they would return the £99 to my CC.

Am in the process of claiming PPI back for an RBS loan, but its been about 5 weeks since the first letter was sent, and about 3 weeks since I recieved a letter saying it was being investigated, and would be sorted within 4 week.
Why is it taking so long? Any ideas?

Blimey Bisoy, I hope I was right as the PPI refund at settlement was the issue but if this was correct (almost sure!!!) then yes, they have short changed you. Please let me know the result... Extra Good Luck

You have to give them 8 weeks to give you a final response after which time you can then take your complaint to the FOS. This is usual and they do delay often.
  • Hi,
i am new to this. I have been out of the country from Aug 07 until April 08 so I just found out about these PPI claims.

I took out a loan with Barclays back in 2003 and settled in 14 months alter. I recall having around £2000-£3000 PPI added to the loan. I was told at the time that I could not take out the loan without the PPI. Being deperate I went along with it. I only have a copy of the cancelling letter from the insurance company acknowledging me cancelling the loan and therefore the insurance. I have since requested a copy of the agreement from Barclays.

Do I have ground to claims.

I also went through all me other statements from Argos, Capital One and Lloyds and found PPI was added to them. I did cancel the Capital one and Lloyds years ago but nevere agreed to have them on the account in the first place. As fo Argos I did not even know I PPI on the account until I looked at my old statements. These go back to Oct 2004. I dont have any copies prior to this. Can I make a claim for a refund for these.

    icon1.gifHBOS have finally paid out
Just wanted to let you know that we have finally received a cheque for a refund of the premiums (£1916.64)plus a refund of interest on the premium payments(378.66),on aloan taken out in Oct 2000
It also states that there is another cheque being sent out within the next 14 days by way of an additional compensation payment (£1396.21).I wont get too giddy until I actually receive the 2nd cheque though.

It has taken exactly 11 months to get to this point and it has been a little frustrating at times. But to everybody out there still waiting-Stick with it and good luck.

A BIG THANK YOU to Martin Lewis. I work in Banking and Martin is something of an Anti Christ among the Hierachy. But I love him.
  • Hello all this is my fist post so may be slightly confusing..................
After watching Mr Lewis on TV yesterday morining and getting my attention when mentioning about self employment and insurance on loans i decided to listen !. I have spent this afternoon going over Loan Agreements that i have taken out over the past 6 - 8 years. In all that time i have always been self employed and taken out the protection with the stafff fully aware i am SE. Anyway i am just reading over some paper work for the Ins and the short of it is it says " i understand that special conditions apply if: i am self employed. What these are i dont know but its putting me in two minds now wether i am eligable to make a claim for miss selling me.

    Thank you

Sometimes self employment is ok on PPI policies. If you are paying class 2 NI then on some you can make a claim. You would have to go through the terms and conditions to check each one. There are a number of other reasons too about misselling.
