And that was\is the main purpose fo this card.

I have a N&P card that is comission free for ATM withdrawals-if I need a small amount of cash.

North Africa (e.g. Morrocco) where cards are only accepted in hotels and large supermarkets (usually subject to very high minimum spends).

Stores in Denmark and Germany often charge for credit AND foreign debit card transactions. In Germany and Netherlands, some stores will only accept the locally issued debit card.

So they are accepted then

Small amounts of cash are usually needed everywhere, but to base your whole holiday spend on ATM cash??

And even if you did, before SUpercard there was\is Halifax Clarity\N&P debit card\Santander zero (If you have it).

Loads of places in the world that don't commonly accept POS: India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Indonesia come to mind. Then you have places like Thailand and Malaysia where it's becoming more common but everywhere expects you to pay 3-4% fees for using a card.

Cash is still king in a lot of places.

Did anybody suggest that they based their whole holiday spend on ATM cash? I do tend to use credit cards wherever possible at home and abroad, but only if cash isn't cheaper.

Even in Europe, I have found smaller traders reluctant to take plastic. In places like Malaysia, most will look at you as if you have two heads if you offer them a card.

We also tend to go away for longer than most, so even 'small amounts' of cash add up to relatively large amounts.

I have just received my Mondo card. It is fee free for ATM and POS and you get the MasterCard exchange rate. Whilst it is still in Beta and acts like a prepaid creditcard, Mondo hope to have a full banking licence later this year. The app is also very similar to the Supercard one. I will be taking my Mondo card away with me for fee free spending (along with my Halifax Clarity ;-))

I have learnt from the past that travel credit cards issuer which dean people to download apps in exchange of an incentive of fee free for foreign transaction, very good exchange rate are only interest to mine people data. With the possibility to sell it other or marketing purposes??
Thy will demand the people to download their apps to mine people data. Getting what they want, they will change the game (e.g. T&C) in the middle after they have got the people data. Look at Travelex, Revolut.

IMO the watch dog should step up and ban this emerging dodgy practice. People should be able to use the services irrespective the way they access they account. People should be able to use their account using any browser without the need to download apps.
