Don't discount a good retention deal with your current network till you've sounded them out. o2 do good deals, no cashback involved as if they do any similar deal they immediately credit your account rather than make you claim cashback.

Thanks for the tip - i've been on a 12 month free deal via cashback so they're unlikely to match that, will they match an alternate provider say the M2YD vodaphone deals? I usually just ditch and swap networks, so haven't really 'negotiated' with the service provider before.

I'm with 02, need new handsets, if I can avoid the cashback faff for about £100 a year I'd probably do so.

*having talked to them they offered 400 mins/1000 txts and £150 account credit with a line rental of £15 on an 18 month contract or £6.66 per month - certainly does the job.
I do hope you're telling the truth?

when exactly did you do the porting into the contract? After you'd received the phone? Before making any use the number it came with?

A week after I had started the M2YD pay monthly voda contract, I had used the phone, Yes my contract No became my PAYT No and vice versa, cashback not due till may

Just received my 1st cashback cheque with the contract I swapped Nos in.

To all those who have been having problems with porting numbers, take a look at this:

Ofcom - Unable to keep number when switching phone company
Mobile phone customers have the right to take their mobile phone number with them when they switch from one mobile company to another. All mobile phone companies are required to transfer a customer’s number within 2 business days of being asked to make the switch.
What should I do to move my number?

    or
I know what to do, but am having problems
I appreciate that means your current network has to release it, but maybe your new network also has to accept it? Ofcoms' specialist advisers should know, I would have thought!

Could be worth a call if you click through the 'I know what to do' bit.

Hope it's of some use. - Please post your findings if you do call.

:j:j Hi All, just thought I would pass on a good reference to M2YD. Have just completed a 12 month contract on Vodafone, coverage wasn't good for me but absolutely no hassles with being paid out for cashback. Emails to them were responded quickly and politely and documentation was delivered as promised. I have just taken one of their T-Mobile Cookies and hope goes as well again for me. Toodle Pip !!

    I agree with this!

I'm on an 18 month Orange £30/month contract started in October through M2YD with 11 months half price line rental redeemable at months 9, 12, 15 & 18. I received the first 'chequeback' form either with the original order or within a month of receiving it (can't exactly remember). My first return date was Saturday 4th July 2009. I posted it on Monday 6th. On Friday 10th, I received a text message:
Dear Mr xxx. I am pleased to confirm your chequeback request has been successful. Your cheque will be with you within 10 days. Thanks M2YD.
How good a service can you get than that?! They stated on the form "You should allow up to 30 days for your application to be processed" !!

Call and give notice to end the contract on its anniversary. You can do that any time within 60 days of that date allowing 30 days notice. They should confirm it in writing. Also ask them to transfer the sim on the end date to a PAYT. You may well need to go through to the "thinking of leaving" option - will get through a lot quicker that way usually too!

    Is that gentle enough??

P.S. If you make sure you don't use the phone on the last day you may find there is a small amount of credit on the PAYT sim. Since you're supposed to make one call every 90 days so if you (for example) want it mainly for incoming calls that should help.

Did all of this. Asked clearly to end on the anniversary of the contract a few times and switch to PAYT.

All put through, hear no more.

Today I get my Voda bill telling me I have been charged £1.02 as I ended my contract early by 2 days

Rung them up and told woman that I had told the advisor how I wanted to cancel on the anniversary.

She informed me that i had to cancel exactly 30 days before the anniversary and no my charge certainly couldn't be refunded, even if it was their advisors fault.

So yah boo sucks to vodafone-they certainly have earned their poor CS reputation.

It's also nonsense. I NEVER wait until 30 days before it's due to end - I always give notice just within 60 days. Last time they insisted I give written notice - and they almost always try to charge the 366th day, which they always refund when challenged. However, their customer service is non-existent. In fact, they remind me lately of E2Save, who shafted their loyal customers in a determined fashion and later attempted to appear as if they cared by appearing on these threads offering to help the growing army of hostile punters. Vodafone have just started a similar exercise. If it's of the same quality as E2Save's was it's just a sham.
