Well, I couldn't resist to call Abbey, as on the 1st of september I had called them and they told me that the card would be with me in 5 to 7 days. Last day was today.
She has put me on hold, then came back and told me that the card was definitively sent, and that I had to wait 7 to 10 days.
So she told me to wait till the end of the week and then call them back if the card didn't turn up, and they would reorder another one for me.
I can't tell you how I wish that the card turn up before then............
Let's think positive, for a change:bdaycake::j  :rotfl: :xmastree:

Seeing JuliaK's post, I might be right to want to check with my local branch before calling them, you never know.
  • Hey that is exactly the same thing i was told on Friday! Still no card this morning so i posted off a letter of complaint to them....not holding my breath though, the whole fiasco has been handled very poorly for such a large company :(

It's the same with any takeovers, there are changes, but always for the worst.
All those problems with the cards being sent on time should have been resolved by now.
  • I have now had enough of Abbey's inability to even acknowledge that they have cocked up big time. I've been waiting since the middle of July for my debit card despite several calls to their far-away call centres who know b*gger all about what was happening!

My card came (at long last) last Thursday along with 2 pin numbers (under separate cover) and then another card the very next day. None of the new cards had my current 16 digit number on it which was essential to get onto their on-line banking!

On advice from some unknowledgeable call centre operator last Friday night, I was advised to cut up one of the new cards which had a different 16 digit number than the other new one. Fine, did what they said and went to my local branch that evening and tried to use the card along with one of the pin numbers sent. Eventually, the message came up as "Card Cancelled.. please contact your branch" I tried to change the PIN to the one I am familiar with.

Got down to another branch the next day and explained what had happened only to be informed that i would have to wait another 5-7 (working) days for a new PIN to be sent d'oh.

So now I have been waiting well over 2 months for my card so that I canuse it. In the meantime I am unable to access the on-line banking after being told that I would have to register for this as the 16 digit is different from my previous one. Why on earth did they send out a different number?

Have sent off a letter of complaint to their Milton Keynes office, again to be told that I should expect a response within 28 days

Am now unable to pay any bills from the Bill payment method which means I am incurring non-payment fees from various orgainisations!

So now after all this, I have decided that enough is enough and have now gone to Nationwide asking them to set me up with a new account.

20+ years with Abbey and what do you get? P*** all!

Would be interested to hear from anyone of they have been succesful in getting compensation from Abbey for this fiasco.

    Regards

That is beyond a joke  Make sure you complain and don't stop until you have compensation.

I can also confirm that the person above had her new card biked to her within 5 hours of the programme finishing and received a new pin number the following day.

It is sad that it takes a complaint to a TV programme to bring about decent service.

I knwo that Working Lunch is very keen to follow up this story so if you have still not received your card, I would suggest you e-mail them.

    Good luck

I emailed the Sun, Mirror, BBC News, Sky and Working Lunch, others too I can't remember. So don't think you will ever get a reply from that lot

Finally managed to speak to a UK customer service (Personal banking), insisted on speaking to the manager.

Logged a complaint with them and was told by the agent (that's a new one) that my card was sent to the Warrington Branch??!!!

I live in Gloucestershire not on Warrington! The manager managed to find out that their new system left a note on my account that I "share mailbox" (Which I don't) .

All this due to the fact that a year ago (early 2006) I lost my card when I was in the North West for a visit and they sent me my card to the nearest branch... you guessed it -- Warrington!

So the call centre manager said to me (off the record) that their new system don't let them remove/update old data off and this is what causing much of this fiasco.

I was told that my card will be with me tomorrow the latest Monday but somehow I don't think so.

  • I picked up my mail this morning and in one of the envelopes, i felt a hard plastic card! Unfortunately, i was on the phone to my friend at the time and i started whooping and whistling like some sort of maniac thinking that my elusive card had FINALLY turned up. She thought i had won something really fantastic but sadly no......it turned out to be my new travel card :( I could have cried, i knew it was too good to be true :(

I pay my aol by continuous monthly debit card payment and if my card isn,t in by then the payment wont go through. Thats all i need, aol to cut my internet off too....that would absolutely crack me up big time.

    Bl***y Abbey !!
