I can't believe it, people are still waiting for these cards. I have lost count of how many times I have rang Abbey now. I have heard all the usual excuses, but today's excuse topped the lot.

I was told that my card that ran out on the 31/07/07 was actually sent out to me on the 24/04/07. Yep, that's right the advisor stated that my card was sent out 3 months in advance as apparently Abbey knew that far in advance that there would be a postal strike by Royal Mail. The advisor then went on to tell me that the Tewkesbury floods were holding things up as well (had already heard that one^^).

I apologised to him for laughing (it was the best excuse I'd heard yet), however it was difficult not to laugh at a blatant lie - as if they would send out a debit card 3 months in advance! I'd recieved previous cards roughly 2-3 weeks before.

At the end of the day, we don't want excuses, just simply our cards, a written apology and good customer service.

After my call, Abbey have finally re-issued a card today, I asked if it could be sent first class special delivery as I have waited nearly 3 weeks since the card expired. Funnily enough when I asked to speak to a manager she was "in a meeting" and what a coincidence - the advisor only knows her first name and not her surname.

Alliance and Leicester here I come...

All I can suggest to everyone affected by this fiasco is to lodge a complaint to Abbey at
    Abbey Complaints Dept
    PO Box 5129
    Milton Keynes
    MK9 2YN
You can ,if you wish, phone them up beforehand and get a Complaint Reg Number and then follow it up by letter and send it Recorded Delivery .And make sure you ask for financial compensation .I sent my letter yesterday now that everything about the car,pin number and online banking registration is working again . I await Abbey's response .

I sent an email to their CEO, who not surprisingly passed it onto the complaints dept. I got a letter back saying that they'd tried to phone (maybe) and that the card was sent on the 27th July (er, where is it then?).

Just switch your current a/c. That's what I've done. Abbey don't deserve your money. It's just a bit of hassle with making sure direct debits are moved over but well worth it.
  • I have had no access to my account for over a month now, and I feel so frustrated and trapped by the situation that I can hardly write this email. It is affecting my health, my relationship and my job because I feel so on edge all the time. I just don't know what else to do. I had a complete meltdown at one of their branches the other week and I just don't know what else to do. I can't take time off work to deal with it. It's just a desperate situation. I don't understand why the media hasn't turned its attention to this issue yet. I'm sure they could help in some way. I feel trapped and unable to do anything else.
