The poppies dress is beautiful isn't it? There's a similar style one on there with a gorgeous cranes print. Am trying to think of an event I need one for
As the dress is knee length that would probably be fine, depending on how you dress it up. The first pic does seem much shorter than that.
It's hard to choose which is the nicest really!
Must admit I'm really not sure which way to go at the moment. I'm seeing the bride soon, so I will get her opinion. Maybe keep the dress as a plan B if I can't find anything else that I like and feel comfy inSealed Pot Challenge # 421

I like the dress and the pattern of it, what about wearing a net underskirt, you could get a slightly longer one so it covers a bit more if you feel the dress is a bit short, tights and some nice shoes.
Rock the retro look!
another favourite of mine

If the original dress is knee length (I thought it looked shorter) then with tights (not bare legs) and a jacket and accessories it'd be fine IMO..... but yes run it past the bride as not everyone see things the same way as shown by me who'd be fine with a guest dressed this way but another poster who'd be "fuming" .I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

my concern would be the netting. You spend quite a lot of time sitting down at a wedding and this dress would be very bulky under the table - and netting can be really scratchy after a while. Better for the evening bit which would be less formalI’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

I don't think there's any need to get an outfit 'cleared' by the bride, is there? Its either appropriate or it isn't, and I'd say if you have any doubts that it isn't then just choose something else!
I'd say, for a fairly posh wedding, if its reasonably formal (you wouldn't wear it to a beach or just on a normal day), isn't white, isn't skintight, is knee length or longer and covers the vast majority of your breast tissue, then its appropriate.
Personally, the first dress doesn't look formal enough to me. It looks like quite a thin fabric and the spaghetti straps with bra style adjusters make it more casual and more like a day dress than a wedding guest outfit.
A rockabilly style dress can be great for a wedding if its one that has a bit more shape and structure to it, and if you wear it with a nice jacket over the top.0 -
How do I post up pictures? I've made a very poor attempt at some pictures of my actual dress!Sealed Pot Challenge # 421

As someone who got married pretty recently, I have to say I'd be fuming if someone had turned up in that... black, and SO SHORT. That being said, I know other people who would be fine with you wearing that to their wedding.
I'd talk to the bride, I know she's already said she wants you in a dress, but ask her if she could have her way entirely, what would she have you wearing, and then go as close to you can to that.
Wouldn't you rather people come to your wedding wearing clothes they feel happy and comfortable in?
If someone would potentially be "fuming" about what I wore to their wedding, I don't think I would want to attend at all.0 -
I guess the style of the dress is a slight risk as it's quite far from the norm, if that makes sense?
My dress is actually quite a thick cotton one. it's not quite as fitted as a lot of rockabilly ones as it has a high waist, but the way it fits me makes it look that way, without it making me look too hippy/pregnant!Sealed Pot Challenge # 421

Unless I have missed something you dont say for certain either the venue(s) of the wedding nor the times?
Black is seen as a no-no almost universally for weddings and in particular if you are going to the daytime parts of the event. White is an issue if you are going to a "british" wedding as it conflicts with the bride just as red is an issue for an "indian" wedding as that is their traditional bridal colour, somewhat ironic given the negative connotations of a bride in red here.
I agree with others that it isnt the most formal dress I have ever seen but really formality is going out the window these days and a high spend has no relation to high formality. At the last wedding I was at half the groomsmen were wearing black trainers with their morning suits
If there is a church/ synagogue/ temple etc part to the ceremony then you may want to consider dress length/ having exposed shoulders etc0 -
"my concern would be the netting. You spend quite a lot of time sitting down at a wedding and this dress would be very bulky under the table - and netting can be really scratchy after a while. Better for the evening bit which would be less formal"
Have just got it out of the wardrobe to take some photos of it and it only has netting on the very bottom of the underskirt, the rest is just a polyester lining (must be why it doesn't seem as poofy, been a while since I tried it on)
"I'd say, for a fairly posh wedding, if its reasonably formal (you wouldn't wear it to a beach or just on a normal day)"
It's not a posh posh wedding, well I don't think it is. I guess formal rather than smart casual.
I've only ever been to two weddings for the day and night, one I was MOH so didn't have a choice in the (hideous bright pink ) dress I wore and the other was the hottest day of the year in summer.Sealed Pot Challenge # 421
