"It's not 'formal', and just bear in mind how you'll feel if everyone is in very plain boring clothes. You may find you stick out like a sore thumb. You may be better keeping it more neutral, but that's up to you."
I think the sticking out is the biggest concern for me, but then like I've said I am always blending in, so it would be nice to go out of my comfort zone a bit.
I've been thinking about how the day may pan out (anyone with more insight maybe be able to give me an idea) and from what I can tell it wouldn't really be seen all that much until the evening.
- Get to church wearing coat
- Inside church might still be wearing coat/packed into seating (there's 150 guests!!)
- After Ceremony wearing coat
- Meal Sat down
- Evening Who knows :rotfl:
"It would look great with a black bolero jacket or even a short black cardi, and maybe a wide black sash or belt to break it up a little. Add black tights and pumps, and you'll look lovely. Wear it with confidence!"
I wonder if wearing a black jacket etc would make it seem too dark, especially having dark hair, but I might struggle matching a red one with the dress. I'm not a fan of black tights personally, but I'm not sure if a nudish colour would look right.
"I have to stop looking at these links. Accidentally bought two dresses and two jumpers from Joy!! Not planning on keeping them all but still... was only supposed to be looking"
I've been very carefully not to look at the links in too much detail yet, luckily I have some college work to keep me distracted....well partly distracted!
"That was only because she was stood right in front of me in the church and was wearing a peach coloured chiffon skirt with black knickers."
When I was MOH there was a larger girl wearing a lovely dress, she looked stunning, but the black leggings she was wearing had ripped around the bum area.....so every time she bent over or stood the wrong way we saw more than we need to.Sealed Pot Challenge # 421

It was the first thing that occurred to me when I read your first post.
There's nothing worse than feeling that you're over-dressed/under-dressed at a function and feeling like you just want to lock yourself away in the toilet but you know you just have to put up with it.I'm not a fan of black tights personally, but I'm not sure if a nudish colour would look right.0 -

It'll do that to you. I have acquired six jumpers, a bag, two dresses and a skirt from Joy in the last six months (plus a few other things I've sent back) and it's rapidly become the place where I buy a lot of my clothes. Not cheap - especially at full price so I always try to buy in the sale or when they have offers on - but they're really nice and a bit different from the norm. I always get loads of compliments when I wear my Joy jumpers"A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0 -
Only you know if you can handle it.

There's a lot of difference between a pair of 80 denier opaque tights and a pair of 8 or 10 denier sheer black tights.
I think my coat is going to be my security for the day. Fingers crossed it will be a cold day
To be honest I'll probably feel like being in the toilet most the time, I don't really enjoy being in big groups. I'm painfully shy around people I don't know. So will stick very close to the people I know.
I will have to look into tights, I have absolutely no idea about them. Can any guess that I'm a bit of a tomboySealed Pot Challenge # 421

You could get something a bit more snazzy so it doesn't quite look 'plain black'. What about these:

Only 30 and I'm already set in my ways lol!
I know what I want in shoes, Mary Jane style, just a case of finding the right pair.
Just saw these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LADIES-HIGH-HEELS-COURT-SHOES-NEW-WOMENS-FANCY-OFFICE-SMART-MARY-JANE-SHOES-SIZE-/281347013762?pt=UK_Women_s_Shoes&var=580379655866&hash=item418196bc82
I'm fine with heels, I'm always wearing them. Rarely seen in a pair of flats. Even my Wellies have heels :jSealed Pot Challenge # 421

"Plain black"?
Have I lost the plot?
Weren't you talking about the black & red dress?
Or have things moved on?I will have to look into tights, I have absolutely no idea about them. Can any guess that I'm a bit of a tomboy
Take a look in Primark.
Sheer tights appear to be in fashion (I learned that from The Apprentice runner-up I think) and when I was in Primark they had a range of sheer tights.
You could try a pair or 2 in different shades and see what you think.
A tip:
Pop a spare pair in your handbag on the wedding day, they are a nightmare for snagging/laddering.
ETA:
The shoes look great, sheer black tights for me with those.0 -
Buying a cheap pair of heels from Ebay is asking for sore feet on a day when there will be lots of standing around and dancing.0
-
I've got those shoes, came up a little small on me by the way.0

Moved on a little, not far though! I wasn't sure about wear a black jacket etc with the dress incase it all looked too dark. So hazyjo was giving me some ideas to break it up a little.
I was looking at stocking in Primark recently, though that was for use in my fish tank.....will go back and have another look. I remember seeing them talk about the tights on the Apprentice...surely ones that would never ladder would be more appealing to most women
Will do, I can guarantee that I will manage to snag them several times, I'm not the most graceful person! Thinking about it I may just want to buy Primarks entire stockSealed Pot Challenge # 421
