    HI OP

If you like the rockabilly look.......

The last wedding we attended, I wore this dress and felt amazing, and had loads of compliments on the dress
    http://www.lindybop.co.uk/swing-jive-dresses-c3/daria-1950s-vintage-inspires-turquoise-butterfly-print-swing-dress-p94

That site have loads of suitable dresses, have had several lindy bop dresses and they are fabulous

There is also this site http://www.carolinadressroom.co.uk/jiveswing-dresses-16-c.asp who sell similar dresses but are slightly more expensive - and I can't vouch for them as have not had anything from them yet (although this will change at the end of the month as I have spied one I must have lol )
    With love, POSR <3

What about looking in charity shops
I second this suggestion, your dress came from a charity shop anyway and you're the right size to find lots of good stuff.

I think it would be perfect for that.

I was just looking at some of those dresses on ebay. I love the style, just got to be so careful as ones that fit me in the chest can be way too big on the waist :( The joys of an hourglass figure in modern times! ...

I have the very same problem. This company is great for dresses that fit hourglass figures.

They are not the cheapest, but the dresses are amazing on and very good quality. I have worn their dresses before and people have actually said "wow" when they saw me! All down to the dress and not me sadly;)

Try their sale as you can sometimes get good bargins.
  • As someone who got married pretty recently, I have to say I'd be fuming if someone had turned up in that... black, and SO SHORT. That being said, I know other people who would be fine with you wearing that to their wedding.

I'd talk to the bride, I know she's already said she wants you in a dress, but ask her if she could have her way entirely, what would she have you wearing, and then go as close to you can to that.
  • Incidentally, I'm totally with you on the perils of the hourglass figure thing. I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't sew. That being said, I got some dresses from ASOS recently, and they were super cheap and the fit is suprisingly good!

I think the dress is probably a bit short for a expensive type wedding (although it's all subjective - both the dress and what is an expensive wedding :D)

If the dress isn't quite as short as it looks in the photo then it would just need a jacket. I don't think a facinator would work with it anyway and something simpler like jeweled slides would look nice and you wouldn't be tempted to fuss or fiddle with them in the same way.

I'd take a look at friend's wedding photos from the same social group for an idea of what your particular group of friends consider to be wedding wear......Face it- if no one ever sees your legs just the very act of wearing a dress will invite comments (nice ones) from your friends.

I wouldn't wear an all black (or all white) outfit to a wedding but mixed in with another colour- no problem.

    MSE Florida wedding .....no problem

Looked at that one last night, I was thinking of the navy with pink poppies one. Will have a look at that other site as well :

"I have the very same problem. This company is great for dresses that fit hourglass figures."

Never thought of them, the shop closest to me has the stick figure kind of girls working in there so always thought it was more that kind of shop!

The dress is actually knee length on me and the netting comes to just below my knee. This is the length I'd be looking for in any dress. Would this be too short?

Got a nice list of sites to look at now, will make a nice change from New Look!

I've tried looking at my friends wedding photos, but none of them actually seem to have many photos showing what the guests were wearing! Mind you I've only got 5 to go by and 2 of those weddings were in the middle of summer!

I was taught to sew when I was little, but I'm not sure how good I am now, so wouldn't want to risk it for something like a wedding

The poppies dress is beautiful isn't it? There's a similar style one on there with a gorgeous cranes print. Am trying to think of an event I need one for :)

As the dress is knee length that would probably be fine, depending on how you dress it up. The first pic does seem much shorter than that.
