That dress with bare legs would be very informal, could end up looking a bit tarty.
  • Did it really take me that long to type a reply! oops!

Just reading through the other responses :)

I agree - especially in early March. I have visions of corned beef legs.

I think it would need to be worn with - at least - fine denier sheer black tights.

From the picture you posted, I thought the dress was a bit too informal but then saw other ones in the same fabric that looked more weddingy:

If it's more like this one, then I would say it would be great for a wedding with black tights and heels. I probably wouldn't go for a fascinate, maybe some vintage style hair clips or a band in red and black spots would go with the style.
  • Okay, it seems the general response is a big no then. Really glad I checked before I went ahead. :)

Back to the drawing board big time

Unfortunately at the moment I have no other options, none of my clothes are particularly smart, and all of my dresses are more summery.

The only thing I know is that it must be a dress, Brides orders lol.

I did feel very comfortable in the dress, but I don't want to make the wrong impression.

I don't want to completely blend in because that's what I always do if that makes sense, I'm easily forgotten, but I don't want to stand out in a bad way.

Thorsoak, That's a beautiful dress but way out of my price range :(

Sorry - as you said "no expense spared", I thought you were meaning what you were prepared to pay! Mind you - John Lewis are always having sales ....might be worth looking to see if it comes up in a sale/price reduction promo!

At least I'd have some colour in my legs then ;) I could make white paper look tanned :D

That's very similar to mine minus the straps. If I remember correctly it comes to about knee length on me, with the black netting ending just below the knee.

Not sure mine poofs out as much as the photo though

That's okay, probably wasn't the best choice of words on my behalf.

Both my boyfriend and the bride have said he would/should by me an outfit as his is being provided for him, but it could be the nicest dress in the world but I wouldn't feel comfortable in it if it cost a lot of money.

    I'm a tightfisted old dear ;)

I think that would be fine then. Nb I'm one of the people that's not keen on black at weddings but only because of the funeral connotation, with the red it's definitely not funereal so go for it. What does your partner think?
