  • Screw handbags, the best present you could possibly get her would be some debt counselling.

I would splash out on divorce papers for her birthday - expensive but well worth it in the long run.

A lot cheaper than a handbag and the years of debt misery she is getting you into, either somehow get her to change her ways or listen to her "I have fallen (run) out of love with you" speech once the money runs out, often there are no hidden depths to a person, they really are that shallow.

When the money runs out the door often "love" goes out the window
every time I manage to get one more breath into this body, I will sing a song of thanks to you my brothers, my sisters, my friends, may your sleep be peaceful, and angels sing sweetly in your ears.

  • Am I the only one who read this thread with the song "Everything she wants" by Wham going through my mind? Maybe I am showing my age..

No, but it reminded me that I have the song on my iPod! :D
  • I can understand her wanting a special gift for a big birthday but if you cannot afford it then you cannot afford it.

It sounds like she is trying to keep up with the Jones', which really isn't a good way to be thinking when she is still in debt.

Save and spend what you can afford, don't be guilt tripped in to buying a designer handbag which will give her satisfaction for a few days. Would she not rather have the satisfaction of being debt free sooner?

A special gift is not always something bought, it can be time spent. Maybe make up for the lack of pricey handbag with breakfast in bed/date night etc.

  • If she already has two Mulberry handbags I would suggest to here that if she really wants a £1700 bag that she should sell those two bags and buy it for herself (or say you will contribute x amont but she has to find the rest herself). There's a good market for second hand Mulberry bags.
What goes around comes around.....I hope!

I spent quite a while away from this board. Coming back a bit, people seem to be calling troll very regularly - more so than before. Some undoubtedly are trolls, but some who've been accused won't be, which must make things all the more difficult for them. Unless someone is deliberately unpleasant it doesn't really matter one way or the other.

If I had a very personal problem I wanted to ask about on here, I'd probably create a new account. That would be partly for anonymity, but it would also be because of seeing some of the nastier responses some people get (not on this thread).
    . . .I did not speak out

    Then they came for me
And there was no one left
    To speak out for me..

If the OP comes back I'd love to know what handbag this is that costs £1700

To be fair, there's no shortage of bags costing in that region or more. With handbags, you can basically spend as much as you like!

I agree. I would never post about anything personal now, as I have seen the kind of vicious and unkind responses people get. Some responses totally uncalled for. No wonder people sign up with new names for certain issues and advice.

I saw someone post something the other week about an issue they were having with a friend, and one of the first responses was 'is this a wind up?' And another was '#firstworldproblems!' And another response was 'How old are you? FIVE?!' I swear people come on here just so they can flame some peoples threads. It seems to be the same 7 or 8 usernames that do it too. ;)
