Do any of your sockets have a bottom half that screws off?

OK, try unscrewing it and plug each phone into the socket that I under the cover and see if it's the same

it is a BT test socket - designed for testing circuits - you should get a slightly better speed when connected via this socket....

None of the sockets have a bottom half! I'm beginning to feel like a hopeless case!

However. I tried the main phone I use in the socket that I don't use at all. Same story. But when I reinserted the whole thing back into the main socket that I use, I see that 'Check Phone Line' has disappeared and 'Charging' has taken its place; correct time and date are showing. I've tried phoning the landline, but no reaction. I'll wait till it's charged up fully before trying again.

I find it odd as the assembly has been plugged into the mains for ever! So, why has it run down? Hopefully it may not matter.

Result - charged up and the message has reverted to Check Phone Line! Nothing has changed.
