Who's signing up for a "Dry January"?

Day 1 completed
No problems.
The weekend might feel a bit harder, but I am going to think of other things I can do to get that feeling of treating myself instead of having a drink.0 -

I would say that ANY alcohol counts. But it all depends on you, and what you want to get out of your Dry January.
If you are trying to get away from the 'sitting down with a glass (or 2/3) of wine' then I'd say you shouldn't count it. But if you are trying to get away from any alcohol at all, I'd say it counts.0 -
Then technically so would becks blue as its got a tiny amount of alcohol in it and many people who consider themselves alcohol free drink that.0

Well, day 1 done and it was easy enough. But then the day after a drinking session are always the easier ones!
I'm one of the ones that sit down of a night when the kids are in bed (or not if it Friday and we are having a movie night) and make my way through a bottle of wine very easily. I find that being in the house alone I just don't know what to do with myself, I never used to drink this much when the ex was around.
But still I'm looking forward to feeling better and sleeping better, having more money and maybe losing a few lbs as well.Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

Again, I'd say that's fine for people who don't mind drinking it.
I'd just rather not drink or eat anything with alcohol in it.
That's just ME though, I am not implying you are doing anything 'wrong', but just saying its not what MY aim is.0 -

I'm not actually drinking becks blue at the moment, I did earlier in the year when I was cutting down on alcohol, but its very occasional these days, soda water does me most times. There's a long running thread on the boards where people are looking to cut down or stop drinking, some folks do consider themselves alcohol free even on the becks blue.
There's also Bavaria which is zero per cent beer, all the alcohol has been removed.
I don't eat brandy laced mince pies or choc liqueurs anyway, was just responding to the other post. A lot of people when cutting alcohol out need something to transition with. There's also sorelle which is zero per cent wine, more like a fruit drink really but if it helps people then so be it.
I'm not doing dry Jan, I'm aiming to spend the whole year alcohol free, managed around 8 months last year but want to improve on that.0 -
Hi everyone, I've only just found this thread by pure luck more than anything, so can I join you please?
I'm going to be saving £20 a week if I can see this through to the end of Jan I hope to have £100 saved. My incentives are:
I hate waking up with a banging headache and that feeling that you've poisoned yourself.
One of my sons wants a computer so the money will go towards that.Weekly savings challenge 2015 #390 -
Can I join please any money I save from not drinking is going to cancer research. I havent actually had a drink since Boxing Day when
I drank 2 bottles of wine and some coffee Baileys Ewwwww.0 -
Nope. No way. Not going to happen.
I have a 4 year old psycho-toddler, so it's a choice between vino or Prozac
Good luck to all who have the willpower to go through with a dry January ...... I will have another drink on your behalf
I'll have a dry January but I'm still on ProzacI used to be an axolotl0 -
Good luck to those that need it
Not joining in because 1) I only have an occasional drink and go months without having one so can't see the point really and 2) I have something arranged for late January where I will enjoy a couple of glasses.
Maybe you could do it apart from that day you have arranged?
I'm doing it, and I rarely drink. People on facebook and my friends and family reckon I don't drink anyway, but I do - probably one or two units a month. They've all seen me drink, but because I don't drink every day they class me as teetotal. Odd.I used to be an axolotl0
