To be honest I never saw the point of alcohol-free beer or other alcohol substitutes. There are plenty of tasty alcohol free drinks - the hard part is finding some that aren't laden with sugar.

You spend £100 a week on alcohol?

I don't go out at weekends, so that helps save a wee bit. ;)

I like becks blue, I think some people when giving up or cutting down in the beginning like an alcohol substitute. When I go out if a pub has becks blue I'll drink it, if not then usually its soda water. Sorelle do a zero per cent wine substitute, that's OK and there's a de alcoholised wine called fre that's nice as well. Eisberg on the other hand, disgusting. I might buy a bottle of free for tonight as am not in the mood to drink.

I would say I would do it...only I rarely drink alcohol, so it would be a waste of time.

I will be drinking tonight, the first time for over a month and then the next time will probably be March or April.

My reasons are not because I am eek about alcohol or a goody goody, just that I never know when I will be required to drive to the hospital for one of the boys, so it is easier not to drink apart from on very special occasions and even then, it is not to excess.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I'm up for it. For so many reasons. My drinking has escalated over the last year and there really is no need for it.

So I'm doing it for my health, my waistline and for my purse.

How I feel today after last night is influencing my decision, but hoping I manage to stick to it. Last year I only made it to 10th January before I gave in.

Deep breaths and all aboard! We are today rediscovering the joys of tonic water and chilled V8 vegetable juice which hopefully will also count as one of our Five a Day fruit and veg! It will be interesting to see if there are specific points at which people start to struggle and what the trigger points are.

I suspect that for many people a difficult day at work or at home with small children maybe the temptation point whilst for others it may just be trying to break what has become a pleasant and on the surface, a seemingly harmless habit.

I'm "dry" for probably 95+% of the year anyway, but with DH's birthday being a couple if days into January it's not ever something we could sign up for!

Hello all, may I join you? I've been planning being AF in January for a few weeks now and today is the first day. Yikes! My tolerance is becoming an issue as I can easily polish off a bottle of wine in an evening and it have no effect on me so a bit of a factory reset is in order, I think.

Santa bought me a gorgeous teapot this Christmas and I went out and bought some posh loose tea yesterday so hopefully the nearly lost art of preparing tea will keep me occupied during the evening!

Does anyone know of any tasty drinks that use tomato/vegetable juice? I can't stand the thought of drinking something sickly sweet like cordial.
    Dry January: 31/31 days. :T
