Also could someone explain to us how this latest turn of events will effect us if most of our charges are not unauthorised overdraft charges?

Please see the first question in the FAQ in the Reclaim Help thread. Link in my signature.
  • I assume that even though Natwest are not one of the banks named directly in this court action that all customers trying to reclaim with NW will not be able to because NatWest will fall under the Royal Bank of Scotland? Is this correct??

I just called Natwest and was told - as of yesterdays turn of events- all complaints on hold. So get lost! I said but my charges were not for unauthorised overdraft as I had a basic account and no o/d facility. Mostly returned d/d. They said all the same thing - we are participating with the other banks (although I did not see them mentioned), and not prepared to get into a discussion - all o n hold. Just like that!

  • Thanks Toniq, they obviously lied to me about not honouring offers already made then. Glad to see that in print on their website, I just hope they weren't lying about sending out the letter now !!

I spoke to Natwest last week, apparently they sent a letter last Friday to my address with an offer of the full charges amount £1309 minus the interest I tried to claim.

I have not received the letter and on ringing today was told that would not send another letter as all claim action has been suspended. Even if I do receive the letter and sign to say I agree with the amount they will not pay me now.

I cannot describe how angry I am, if I had received the letter at the beginning of the week I would have signed it and sent it back the same day and had the money by now.

So damn close to getting my money back.
Hi,as far as i am aware they will have to honour their offer,if you look on the financial ombudsman website,or follow the link for natwest in toniqs post above, you will probably find these helpful.Goodluck

Hi Fowler, sorry you've already read it!
  • My commiserations to all fellow NatWest complainants whose cases have not yet been settled. This turn of events is most unexpected and, I know, distressing for many of us in the short term, though we can only hope that it leads to fairer banking procedures in the future.

I am, like most of us, utterly stunned that neither this group nor CAG were consulted by the OFT before launching this case, and disturbed that there were evidently a series of 'behind-the-scenes' discussions between the OFT and the banks before this happened. It smacks of a pre-done deal.

However, I feel that we should applaud Martin and those other prominent campaigners whose pressure has obviously led to this campaign being taken seriously, and to those enlightened judges up and down the country who have seen through the banks' sham up to this point.

I received my offer monday and returned the letter the same day. I have just got through on the phone after being on hold for 25 minutes and have been told its ten days for the apyment to go into my bank account. I pointed out my account is closed and have instrcuted them on the letter to pay it into my RBS as they are the same people - they cannot do this and it will be a cheque - which takes a little longer!
I know I shouldn't grumble as so many of you are still waiting but natwest have been so neglectful all the way through this claim and this feels like the final turn of the screw.
When I think back to not being able to afford vets treatment for my dog when she was ill (I ended up negotiating with the vet) and not being able to buy a nice wreath when a friend died all because natwest swiped money from my account it makes me feel sick.
Good luck to everyone I am sure the court will swing in your favour
