By the way, I take it you aren't able to answer what you meant by tinfoil man, or whether you have a clue about how the technology works?

The way you go on just reminds me of this:

How hard is it to understand that Three has made a commercial decision, a pretty bad one from a customer point of view, but completely legal and allowable?

Everything else you write without understanding that one salient point is just superfluous.

Do you think it is right to just toss around half-baked attempts at personal insult like that as a response to serious questions about commercial malpractice?

You obviously think it is ok for you to "toss around half-baked attempts at personal insult" :-

I would liken the increase by Three to the same as a Landlord of property. They are at liberty to increase rents giving due notice as per terms of contract, you are then at liberty to accept or decline or try to negotiate a better deal.

It was/is not a doubling of price for everybody. Some admittedly were only paying £15 for the One Plan, personally I was paying £20 while somebody I know was paying £25 a month. For myself I negotiated a better deal than offered & reduced my cost per month because like most I never got near needing unlimited data so a reduced allowance was acceptable & still worked out a lot cheaper than the competition. ( Please note better deals were available but I can not get a signal at home for some network so not an option )

I've also had one of those letters, previously i have been on the sim only version of the one plan at £15/month. I spent over two hours on the phone to them to try and get a better deal, this ended up with a PAC code, and an email to their customer support/complaints department ( via the website)
this was then followed up with an email back with a decent offer, then another long phone call. Apparently I've now got this deal, but other than the phone call, I have not had any confirmation through yet, checking the my three site shows no details of future payments/costs due, only that £15 is/was taken from my account via direct debit as usual.

    Update...what a bloody nightmare!

I called the number on the letter which went through to the overseas call centre who was just reading from a script.

She kept trying to sell me 8gb plans which she could give me for the fantastic price on the 3 website - no discount whatsoever, just kept repeating what fantastic benefits 3 were giving me:D

I explained my usage had been low (even though they could see December I used 21gb) the past few months as I had been poorly so hardly left the house so used broadband but my usage would be changing and I wanted to be on the safe side. It was like banging my head on a brick wall.

She lied and said there was nobody she could pass me through to regarding making a complaint and they don't have a complaints department:rotfl: then when she had exhausted trying to get me to take an 8gb plan she said would transfer me to the complaints department, then she cut me off:mad:

I finally got back through to the overseas call centre, then to the Scottish advisors who took my details regarding a complaint and confirmed they could not offer me any loyalty discounts as they were not available and only the website offer was available of £25.
I mentioned family members had been offered the £17 deal and he said he could not understand it as head office have specifically said no discounts.

So he has taken my complaint, I have asked for a letter replying to my complaint so I can look at my options. I have given 30 days notice and revert to PAYG to consider my options.

I took on two more contacts for my son and partner a while back so once they have come to the end I will be cancelling due to the way this has been dealt with. Shocking service #makeitright my backside! This has got to be a huge PR blunder as it has been all over social media and the news.

Right I am going to calm down and have a brew:beer:

I had the exact same experience a week or so ago when I called them, even to the same extent of my usage varying so was not interested in anything less than AYCE, except I somehow wasted 2 hours of my life on the phone to them.

In the end, tired of being called a liar and listening to robotic scripts, I gave my OH authority on my account as he had managed to get a great deal and I wanted the same.

He eventually spoke to someone in the complaints dept. who agreed that I had been treated terribly and my line rental for this month would be re-credited and after listening to my partner’s phone call back in early Feb where he was offered the deal, they agreed to give me the same deal too which is the same one they are offering for £33 on their website, for the princely sum of £19pm. However upon listening back to his phone call, they asked if I wanted AYCE data + 8GB tethering allowance, AYCE mins and AYCE texts for £16 so I took that one instead.

All in all, I'm pretty much on the same deal as before but just paying £1 extra, my OH is on the same but with 12GB tethering allowance (which he utilises) both on a 1 month rolling contract so it all worked out in the end. :)

So from all the reports we can surmise that they will a) try to fop you off with nothing at all (wiping out any loyalty discounts you had), b) if you really fight, you get an insignificant discount, c) if you all-out fight, you might get something reasonable - if you're lucky and speak to the right person or dept at the right time of day.

You also have to wonder, why are they so keen on offering rolling contracts? They offered me one as well. Well, it gives them the option to change their mind at any time. They may not take it, but going on recent form ...

If you haven't been through this yet, good luck.

    I got the letter today stating my £15 PM rolling contract was to be changed to £30 (inc £3 loyalty) AYCE everything, so phoned up asking for PAC. After some negotiating, ended up with;

12GB Data (think he said with 12GB tethering, standard is 8GB tethering)
200 mins CAPPED cross network (Suits me as I don't talk much)
Unlimited Texts (not that I need much when you got Whatsapp)
    Plus 2000 3 to 3 minutes
All for £17 PM so only £2 more. Not bad. 12 month contract.

Was also offered; 4GB data, 600 mins at @ £19. Asked for fewer minutes to get more data before being offered the above. I only asked for 5GB but that wasn't on the table so got 12GB instead!

Previously, One Plan, £15 PM, 5000 mins, 5000 text, unlimited data 1 year contract gone to 30 day rolling which I would have kept for life if it kept working as it was. (included £10 loyalty discount). Strange how loyalty discount can drop to £3.

Hope that helps someone looking to negotiate. If you do want to switch, I was going to go with:

Tesco Mobile - 18 month contract (and probably get Clubcard points)
    £19.00/month 750 / 5000 (mins / sms)
    8GB data
I had a Tesco Mobile plan for a bit. Not bad. Works off O2? Tethering allowed. 4G.

BT Mobile's offering was okay but I read tethering was not allowed.
£20 PM (plus get £40 Amazon voucher) - inc £5 discount if you have a BT Broadband (which I do)
    20GB data
Unlimited BT Wifi hotspot access, Mins, Texts

That was, in the event that 3's new offering wasn't acceptable.

As standard you can tether the total data allowance expect on AYCE plans which as standard include a 12GB hotspot allowance.

I pay the same amount for a monthly rolling plan but my data and mins allowance is higher.

    Just wondering how much higher?

Mine's enough for me although wouldn't mind more minutes in case. Was it a recent negotiation?

Was offered this Feb 2016 following my One Plan letter.

AYCE data with 12GB hotspot, 600 mins + 2000 3 to 3 mins on a monthly rolling basis. I don't generally use lots of mins so £17 was better option than £20 for AYCE offered.

I was on 200 minutes all have data and texts for £13 and I recently received the letter.

They wanted to keep the same package but charge £20 a month, the call centre were useless and offered nothing. I made a formal complaint and when they called back I got ayce calls and text with 8gb of data which is more than enough for £13 on a 1 month contract.
