How hard is it to understand that Three has made a commercial decision, a pretty bad one from a customer point of view, but completely legal and allowable?

Everything else you write without understanding that one salient point is just superfluous
Sorry Dave. You are wrong. I write complaining about behaviours that most people know are wrong. You write stuff that shows you know how corporates operate but which also shows you have no answer to it, or do not intend there to be an answer to it.. Isn't your stuff a bit superfluous to those of us who are bombarded constantly by imposed corporate changes which seriously inconvenience us by derailing the way we have come to rely upon essential utilities, and who wish to complain here about it? There's been no sudden shortage of telecoms technology, has there? So why has a licensed government utility provider been "allowed" to unilaterally tear up the status quo and rewrite the rules?

I am prepared to write what I believe in. Because I won't simply accept that it is "legal and allowable" for Hutchison 3G to do what they are doing, it doesn't mean that what I say is superfluous. It may be superfluous to your closed mind, of course. Your writing indicates that don't seem to believe anything beyond !!!!!! happens. Have you ever changed !!!!!! that happens? You can you know - if you are of a mind to.

Tip: To get stuff changed for the better, you usually have to start off by writing stuff that other people haven't, or daren't, or aren't sure about,or even which simply isn't fashionable.

You might then be surprised about what is "legal and allowable" if your beliefs happen to gain traction.

The answer is simple, and I've already said it, Three are allowed to change or terminate the contract, if it's within the minimum term and to the detriment of the customer the customer is allowed to terminate the contract and leave without penalty, if it's after the minimum term the customer has a choice to accept it or leave.

Three is being stupid, immoral, showing bad customer service, being idiots etc BUT IT IS A BUSINESS DECISION and they are legally allowed to do so.

Just like the customer can give 30 days notice to terminate, the other contracting party (Three) can also do so.

They have made a business decision, and wish to change the contract, you have the choice to accept it or walk away. That's the bottom line.

I've been into the local phone shops and one of them said 3 are looking to drop all-you-can-eat data completely. That was probably because they didn't offer one themselves.

Entirely correct, legally nothing wrong but in terms of customer service, appalling. I too have the infamous letter, £15 to £30. When I phoned, they claimed it was a standard letter, despite it being personalised including my contract details. I originally signed up for a 12 month contract, something had they taken into account would have seen them offer me a £20 contract and not £30.

Anyway, I didn't let the call centre go beyond much more than hello and cancelled my contract. That initial vision of my contract price doubling was too much to bear.

I'm off to giffgaff, rolling monthly contract, data always on and unlimited calls / text for £20. I'm not expecting 3 to make me a better offer :rotfl:

If data isn't important then you will probably be OK on giffgaff for calls and texts. If data is important then you may get a very nasty surprise. The "Always On data" 4G is generally slow possibly unusable for some apps during the daytime but assuming you can use 6GB your speed is then capped to 256Kbps between 08:00 and 24:00. Also don't forget if giffgaff doesn't like your data usage pattern it will ban you from buying more always on goodybags under its Traffic Flow T&C's !

I'm not sure how proactive Three are being at making better offers to those requesting PAC's but for those prepared to take the fight to Three there are deals to be had i.e. AYCE everything for £20.

If the choice was £20 for a Three AYCE plan or giffgaff always on I know what's I'd chooce :rotfl:

I live in Morecambe and having just activated my giffgaff SIM, I'm pleasantly surprised at the speed I'm getting which is far better than that I had with 3. I didn't realise how poor 3 were *around here* until now.

I don't mind traffic shaping, I know my data figures through an android app so I'm fairly sure I'm not going to cause them a problem. It's also nice to find a provider that's open about what they do, I'm sure others use traffic shaping but just don't admit it.

Sounds like it worked out well for you and in a way it was good that Three forced your hand. :D

I wouldn't call how giffgaff manages data "open". Banning customers from re purchase if they have a consumption pattern that doesn't meat some undisclosed metric that may vary by area, time of day and traffic. This one of the reasons giffgaff claims it doesn't provide specific numbers because it's so dynamic.

I tried giffgaff for a while and still have an active sim that I just use for the occasional comparison.

Traffic shaping needs to be dynamic, I don't really have a problem with that. Yes, it's worked out well and I have what at first sight appears to be a decent plan on a monthly basis when 3 expect me to sign up for 12 months for the same.

I have today received a letter from three giving me reason to leave them

It basically informs me that they are virtually doubling my tariff in 30 days, unless I cancel with them

I have had an All You Can Eat 4g (NO TETHERING !) under £12 tariff for 3 years and they want to charge me £23 for it (with a £3 discount) - the letter implies that it is all being done to "MAKE IT RIGHT" (for whom ?) !
When I emailed three - 3 months ago to check that the new rules would only affect those with tethering - I was told "don't worry, it won't affect you ..." - LIES !!

I see that iD offer a 4Gb /500 minute/5000 txt/ 4g package for only £10 per month - which uses three network - is there any reason to doubt whether my connection will be any worse on iD than three ?
ie) Will three throttle iD ?

Finally had my letter last week - I knew I was living on borrowed time!

Same as everyone else - 'offering' to put me up to £30/month for less (no unlimited tethering) than I had been paying £15 for.

I'm a pretty low user - 2-4Gb/month, 300mins, 1-200 texts - which is probably why they let me stay on it for so long.

    Initially offered 4Gb data, 600min, unlim text - 16gbp
Eventually accepted 8Gb data, unlim mins, unlim texts - 16gbp - on a 1-month contract

I was hoping for unlimited data (and happy to accept fewer minutes) but they weren't going to budge; and 8Gb is unlikely to be limiting for a while.
