Don't know about EE, but I've just changed to Life Mobile, they run on (and are owned by) EE and they have a 'Smart Cap', ie. the max you can overspend past your allowance.
Default is £5, if you call you can change it to £1 (no lower).0 -
Pretty much like most networks then?
I had big issues with bill shock largely due to premium rate text/service scams on Voda but I'm lead to believe it now provides extensive online user options to disable different types of out of allowance spend.
On Three there is a toggle option in My3 to "control my spending" which disables out of allowance spend on numbers/texts not included in your allowace or on numbers etc included in your allowance once it's exceeded. In the past 3 years I've never encountered issues with out of allowance spend on Three that I did with Voda.
Other networks may also offer similar features hence the question about EE because I value this feature.0 -

I think you will struggle trying to match some of the better new contract deals that other people have managed to get, if only for the fact that there were a lot more 'deals' from phone operators around circa Feb time (BT £16 deal, Voda £20 deal etc) which you could use to barter with.
Look online on 3's website and see what package you would be happy with, then look at 3's competitors to see what they are offering. Try and use that to barter with lowering the '3' price down. Oh and try and get through to the Glasgow department as they seem to have more flexibility in offering deals.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. I've just had a letter through from Three telling me they are phasing out my plan! I currently pay £20/month for all I can eat everything.... They are offering me a price cut, so I'll only have to pay £33 for the same service??????? Sorry if my math is out but that looks like a 65% price hike to me!0

I received the letter yesterday, pretty standard one offering a £3 discount on a £33/month new tariff.
There are 34 new tariffs, some of which have 30 GB of tethering. The guy at the call centre wouldn't discount any except the top priced one (£3 off, as per the letter), although he would include 2000 extra 3 to 3 minutes at no charge. He was also quite happy to talk through the data and minutes used each month for the past few months, making it an easy choice for me... As both myself and my OH (who also has a legacy "One Plan") mostly call other 3 mobiles.
We both visit Spain regularly, sometimes every month, so staying with Three (and their "feel at home") is really useful, so I opted for 600 mins, 2000 3 to 3 mins, 12 GB data (all tethered) on a 12 month contract, for £22/month. I could possibly have stuck out for a better price, but probably not as they have just increased the data allowances and have 34 plans to pick from...0 -
I also have the Three letter.
I'm on the £18 AYCE, 600 mins and unlimited texts.
They are offering me based on their opinion of my usage the 1GB data, 600 mins and unlimited texts for £11 (including the £3 discount.
I phoned them to explain I wasn't happy that they were closing my tariff down. He said my average data was 3GB a month, so why the hell offer a 1GB package. I ranged from 1.4GB to 3.9GB a month.
I've asked for PAC and given notice. Thinking about it now I have the info regarding data used, I'm complaining that they should have offered me the AYCE, 200 mins (I don't make many calls outside of 3 to 3 calls) and unlimited texts at £20 and then reduced using the £3 discount. This all seems a ploy to offer a discount on a tariff that isn't suitable so you have to go for a higher without the discount offered.
Although now I will probably take a 1 month Giff Gaff £20 and port number, then sign up to Three's SIMO £20 a month AYCE, 200 mins and unltd texts, via Quidco for £50 cashback and porting my number back, bringing the net cost to £16 a month, two pounds less than what I was originally paying.Financial Aims for 2012:
