Why should I have children???

Because when you have the world and his dog telling you you should have children, you'll die a sad lonely old woman, you'll regret not having them when it's too late, you don't know what love is until you've had a sprog etc etc it does make you question whether you're making the right decision. I do sometimes wonder if they're right and I will live to regret it, but right now that's not enough to make me have one.

I'm just speaking from my experience, and I constantly feel like I have to justify myself. I can understand why some people drag up every reason they can think of to explain why they don't want kids.

I guarantee that overpopulation wouldn't be the sole reason for anyone not wanting kids. The most likely reason is that they don't want the responsibility, commitment and lifestyle changes kids bring; overpopulation is just a useful bonus reason.

Getting fed up of the 'if everyone stops having babies' argument. Look. That will NEVER EVER happen. But the number of people having babies (or the number of babies produced overall) needs to reduce and if we don't publicise this view, how will we educate those with the ingrained view that everyone should have them?

I think that you are very confused - but I would advise you to stick to your guns - and avoid child-rearing. But please - just as I respect your conviction that you do not want children - do not denigrate those women who do choose to have children. They deserve your respect, just as much as you demand our respect.

Basically, it discusses the fact that the birth rate is dropping in the industrialised world, and whether or not it is a good thing or not.
