Why should I have children???
Comments
-
Why would the child free have to "justify" it to themselves? Me and OH chose not to have children and have never regretted despite so many people desperate to tell us we would. Been very happily married for over 30 years (unlike just about all our friends with children).
Because when you have the world and his dog telling you you should have children, you'll die a sad lonely old woman, you'll regret not having them when it's too late, you don't know what love is until you've had a sprog etc etc it does make you question whether you're making the right decision. I do sometimes wonder if they're right and I will live to regret it, but right now that's not enough to make me have one.
I'm just speaking from my experience, and I constantly feel like I have to justify myself. I can understand why some people drag up every reason they can think of to explain why they don't want kids.
I guarantee that overpopulation wouldn't be the sole reason for anyone not wanting kids. The most likely reason is that they don't want the responsibility, commitment and lifestyle changes kids bring; overpopulation is just a useful bonus reason.0 -
So, if everyone stops having babies - where are you going to find the babies to adopt?
Getting fed up of the 'if everyone stops having babies' argument. Look. That will NEVER EVER happen. But the number of people having babies (or the number of babies produced overall) needs to reduce and if we don't publicise this view, how will we educate those with the ingrained view that everyone should have them? And should you not give credit to the author of this piece by printing her name? She has copywrite!

I have a dog who, as someone said above, does tie me down to some extent, but I love him and that's fine. So how am I selfish?
I do not hate children. I helped raise my younger siblings as I am much older than them. Everyone tells me (who know me in real life) that I would make a great mother. Yes I referred to them as sprogs in an earlier post, but I never said I hate them.
I am entirely not confused at all. I know what I want thank you very much

This could be me. I often say at the grand old age of 40 I am on grandkids lol.0 -

Oh yes you did - I refer you to my earlier post #258 wherein I quoted your earlier posts:-
Post #237 "I promise you, he knows 100% I am not maternal, and he has accepted that I don't want to rear a child. If I do change, which could happen (but probably won't), then adoption will be the way forward.
Post #97 "Urgghhh can't imagine taking on someone elses' sprogs! I think the pool of suitors will rapidly decrease as I get older (if this one doesn't stick with me). But as I said, quite happy to be alone, or keep my youthful looks with plastic surgery that I'll be able to afford from not having kids "
I think that you are very confused - but I would advise you to stick to your guns - and avoid child-rearing. But please - just as I respect your conviction that you do not want children - do not denigrate those women who do choose to have children. They deserve your respect, just as much as you demand our respect.0 -

Again...where does it say I hate them? Admittedly it sounds a bit derogatory towards children but please do stop twisting my tongue in cheek comment.0 -
Just because you don't want kids doesn't mean you should sit there and vilify those who do...This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Post #137 "Not yet. I keep saying how much I hate kids and things like, "this is why I don't want children" but not properly sat down set. Give me a few weeks - I'll update you when I have the chat."
I apologise - I failed to cut and past your post #137 which states your feelings very clearly.0 -
Some people may be interested in this article on Low Birth Rates: Causes, Consequences and Remedies - see http://english.caixin.com/2013-09-12/100581454.html.
Basically, it discusses the fact that the birth rate is dropping in the industrialised world, and whether or not it is a good thing or not.0 -
