Why should I have children???

  • tealover - I have another friend (no children yet), they both want them but the husband is more keen for them have them asap: he says he's looking forward to having a child to play computer games with, lol.
  • I'm also going to answer this media point (forgive me for taking the strongest stance to make my point! I don't feel as strongly as this in real life!)

Having children in the UK today is the ultimate selfish act. We don't need your children. We'd be better off without them.
If we could get everyone to think of the greater good and keep their knickers on for just a few years, life would be better for every single one of us. Just a few years grace when we could temporarily stem the tide of consumers.

There aren't enough jobs, there isn't enough money. Already existing people in dire need are having to go without in order to support your children. There aren't enough healthcare providers, schools or houses for them to live in.
Have you any idea of the fortune you have cost the country? The benefits, the healthcare, the 90K per year it costs to school one child in a state school? You won't have even scraped the surface with the taxes you've paid. You have taken out far more than you have contributed and there's nothing special about your genes that makes it worthwhile.

Yet you've decided to make every single one of these problems worse.

Every time you complain about high house prices or not being able to see a doctor quickly, or there's not enough money to support your disabled child, or there's a ten year waiting list for your surgery ... think on and ask yourself why you chose to make this situation worse?

Oh yes, that's right. Your ego. You wanted to be a mummy, to feel important to someone, to feel your insignificant little life has a purpose.
Screw everyone else. The irony is that you're also screwing your own children but you won't remember that when you're moaning about how awful everything is for them.

(Again, forgive me for arguing this belligerent position, I would love your children if I met them! :o )

What are your views on immigration?

    Just curious.

Must admit that question went through my head when I read that rather hate filled rant!

Contrary to what some believe we do need children, we have an ageing population with people living longer than ever before. We need hardworking parents to raise hardworking, decent children who will eventually run this country, pay our pensions, look after our sick etc. We do have plenty of money an space but due to immigration we are bursting at the seems, let's start looking after our own and support parents more as it isn't easy raising a child, working etc and i don't feel I am selfish for the choice I made to have 1 child.

  • Interestingly enough, my mother used to get a bit sad about me not wanting kids. She would say, "You could have one and I'd look after it" and other stuff. Now she's turned 60, she decided she's glad I didn't have kids because she's too old for them and couldn't be bothered!

Of course I can see the argument that we need children as we have an ageing population BUT we cannot, as a country, just keeping adding to the population as the country just cannot cope.

You cannot deny we do not have anywhere near enough housing and there is not enough land to build loads more houses unless we start building on the countryside which is not a good idea. We also have nowhere near enough jobs, our schools are struggling with large classes, hospitals cannot cope. Our roads, unless out in the sticks, are ridiculously crowded. My OH has to drive everyday with his job and journeys which should take an hour regularly take 3 or 4 or even 5!

Sooner or later the population will have to be controlled somehow and yet with advances in medicine etc people are going to continue living longer and longer. So what will be the answer?

I don't feel the slightest bit selfish for not having a child to contribute to the future. Quite the opposite in fact as I am not contributing to the problems.

What a load of old pony. Sounds like it's for the best that some of you child-free people don't have any kids. It would be awful to think that you'd brought a baby into your hate-filled, bitter and twisted little world.

The problems aren't being caused by us natives having children, more the fact we keep letting more people in to our country. I work in a school and year on year we take more foreign pupils yet children born in this country are turned away! Same with the NHS and their free treatment for the world and his wife, this is the problem and needs to be sorted. That would help population control a great deal. Might not be a popular view but we are a small island with limited resources and can't look after everybody.

Can you tell me what is hate filled, bitter and twisted about my post please.

The truth is this country AND the planet are overpopulated.

Lots of friends, relatives etc have said me and OH would have made great parents and we have always given our nieces and nephews (who we would often look after from a very young age) lots of love and attention, taken them to fun places etc.

We decided not to have children partly because we do not think this is a nice world to bring children into and because we feel there are already too many people in the world. So we were thinking about potential childrens' futures. How exactly that makes us bitter and hate filled I fail to see. Caring about the planet? Caring about whether any children would have a happy life? Funny way you think

I am not disputing that a lot of the problems are caused by this country letting far too many people in but having children hardly helps
