  • My fil doesn't cook. He and his wife eat out almost every single night because they can afford to and they find no joy in the kitchen. So restaurants ( or other people's homes) are mainly where they eat. Takeaway isn't for them, they also dislike clearing up! :D

They sound like right lazy toerags.

I agree, talking about work, religion, politics, etc is usually small talk that people aren't really interested in but use it to fill an awkward silence.

Each to their own obviously, but I wouldn't class religion, work or politics as small talk when I discuss them with my husband. I think discussing them as a couple (whether out for a meal or not) helps you to understand your OH and their general point of view on life.

I happily chat about work with my OH as work is such a huge part of both our lives, I enjoy hearing how his day has been and his goals + aspirations for the future and likewise in return. If we never discussed work, there would be a huge area of both of our lives, that neither of us had a clue about.

We talk a lot about plans for the future, holidays, events planned, decorating plans, we always seem to be planning something

IMO these kind of topics are actual important stuff and IMO, makes for far more intelligent and stimulating conversation than if my husband would rather have a massive hand or massive foot - those are the kind of conversations we have if we are tipsy
    With love, POSR <3

I am genuinely sorry to hear that.

Try playing a game of would you rather next time.
  • I wish my hubby would chat to me....IF we go out which is very rare he sits and plays with his phone and leaves me sitting there in silence. He only talks about stuff he has to, we never have a conversation. which saddens me he is the same at home....I just read a lot now....

I really don't get the 'would you rather' game at all, talking about OH work is real life, I obviously do not work with him, in his company so if he had to play a make believe game over telling me what happened at work, what course he is going on, what is next job will be etc etc there would not be any point as that is over 70 hours a week he is at work, a whole chunk of his life that if he did not share, I would know nothing about.

Oh I am sorry to hear that, is there any reason? Has this been going on for a long while? Have you tried to explain to your OH how you feel?

If I spent 70 hours a week at work the last thing I would want to do when I came home would be speak about work!

I think fufu is being hilarious, ( and I am not joking)

DH and I do silly stuff like this. Real life is very important to be up to date on, but silly stuff and laughter is pretty good too.

( DH already has huge feet and is quite content with them, and has lovely hands, so in know his answer to that one:rotfl:.....one huge foot one been he'd had a terrible accident. :()

I agree! How can anyone not find the 'would you rather' game funny! Much prefer to play that than talk about DH's work!
