I agree! How can anyone not find the 'would you rather' game funny! Much prefer to play that than talk about DH's work!

I don't find it funny at all. I would be worried if me and OH had so little to talk about that we were reduced to playing such a silly game

We're the same we used to eat out together at least twice a week but since LO came along almost 2 years ago it's now around once every two months and yes we quite often eat in silence but it's a comfortable one - we usually end up people watching and talking about others in the restaurant or talk about our LO I don't mind though it's nice to get out of the house!

We've been known to play I spy in the middle of the night. I like silliness.

I've never actually played it tbh. I do find it amusing though! Sometimes people have so many horrible/complicated/boring things going on in their life's at times that everyone needs abit of fun! After all, they do say that laughter is the best medicine!

Some people really need to lighten up....

OH likes this sitting in silence lark and at first I found it really rude. Funny he never did it before we'd lived together for a while. Now I've learnt to lead the conversation, but as someone said upthread, sometimes I'd be more successful extracting his tooth than a word out.

I guess this is the point I was trying to make. Of course I'm not saying never talk about the boring stuff like work and politics and religion, just I would never make it the main point of a conversation.

Life for me is all about having fun and I personally wouldn't get that from sitting around talking about what I had done at work today or what courses I had coming up, etc.

I've already painted a mental picture in my head of certain posters sitting around a dinner table looking deadly serious and not breaking into a smile and me, Georgie, Buzzy and Lost on the next table laughing, joking and having a great time!

I find this statement really sad and quite snobby :( The best times of our lives are when we are kids and are carefree and have no serious issues to worry about. Don't be so uptight, embrace the inner child in you and don't be afraid to have fun.

I'm with you, the relaxing atmosphere of being out together is to me conducive to good conversation about lots of different things. That's not to say there aren't times of silence but talking together is one of the best things about a meal out.

Topics include work, religion, current affairs etc and that isn't small talk!:p

Me and OH laugh all the time. He has a brilliant sense of humour and even after over 30 years together he makes me laugh just about every day.

Why is it sad? Me and OH have lots of fun and lots of the time don't act our age. In fact I think we act much younger than most of our friends (our nieces are always saying they can't believe how old we are!).

I just don't see that playing a silly game is having fun and, as I said before, we don't run out of things to talk about in restaurants so wouldn't have to resort to a "game". Not all our conversations are about serious things.
