couples in a restaurant, eating in silence..

Options
When we went out for dinner, sitting at a restaurant looking around there were many couples eating in silence, looking around everywhere but at each other, I made a comment to OH that it was awful to be in that situation and he says to me that he feels the same, he has nothing new to say to me:eek: that after years of talk he has run out of talk, yikes:o

We chatted about his statement (ironic I know:)) and he said it was not a problem for him or us, he just felt that he had nothing new to add:(

Have you ever been in a restaurant situation desperate to have something to say but can't think of anything?

    It sounds like you are taking it on the wrong way. Yes, sometimes couples can run out of things to talk about, especially if they spend a lot of time together, but if the silence is comfortable then it doesn't really matter.

    Yes, pretty much what OH said, at first I was like OMG, panic, this is the end, typical over reaction from moi but now we have chatted about it it makes sense, not every time together can be filled with chatter, most of it pointless anyway;)

    What geri said - being desperate to keep the conversation going is the kind of thing that happens when you're in a new relationship.

    Do you think? Would you be ok with silence in a restaurant?

  • Thats exactly what me and my partner must look like when we're out to dinner lol! My OH to be fair is man of few words, and will only talk when he has something new to say! If hes already told me everything then he is happy to sit there quietly and not say a word!

    I dont mind it to be honest, its normally a comfortable silence and its always better then trying to force conversation with him, as thats like pulling teeth! :rotfl:

    I think as long as its a comfotable silence then theres nothing to worry about, sometimes its just nice to sit and enjoy the other persons company without feeling obliged to have a conversation :)

    Yes - we're another of the quiet couples. I rather like people watching when we're out and about. :)

    I may be a little odd but I sometimes ask ' What shall we talk about '

    We pick a subject then talk about it! haha Am I strange!?

    I don't confine this behaviour to my OH I do it to mates aswell if I think the conversation is flagging!

    LOL, me and 'er indoors are the opposite! Together over 30 years, and when we go for a meal, we chat incessantly. Our food goes cold half the time.:D

    I find it very sad indeed when couples sit there for an hour or more, and don't say anything. :( The chances are, that it's the same at home. How depressing. :(
    You didn't, did you? :rotfl::rotfl:
