Hi My friends are off the NY in September with their 2 year old - they plan to walk or use subways most of the time but were wondering what is the situations with child car seats to get from the airport or to go somewhere specific by taxi? Is there any laws? Do you have to have a childseat? Do taxis supply them??0
-
I'm only guessing here but I suspect that this law is EU based not American.
I have never heard of any US taxi offering childseats. (I know the law is different if you hire a car.)0 -

Best (IMO) Taxi - when you land at JFK, go outside, ignore all the people offering you cheap cars (they ain't cheap) and simply follow the signs leading to the Taxi Dispatch Booth. A uniformed Taxi Dispatcher will place you in the first available yellow, medallion taxicab. The Taxi Dispatcher will give you a ticket indicating the date, terminal and taxicab medallion number. Please keep this ticket for referrals regarding lost property, complaints and compliments.
the flat fare is $45.
BUS - nightmare, slow, and a hell of a lot cheaper... where you staying and i can give you better instructions... also, both bus and subway are "are not equipped for large pieces of luggage"
there is a halfway point between the proper bus and the cost of a taxi, and that is the supershuttle... not so super, but it will take you to your hotel. its a mini van which is shared, and its murphy's law that you'll always be last drop off.. first person is $21 then it is $12 for additional passengers after....
personally, I just jump into a taxi, you gotta sound confident and not give the hotel name, and give the cross street of where you're going... (i always stay at the cosmopolitan in tribeca), so get in, shut the door, and then tell him - Chambers and West Broadway... then just sit back and enjoy the view...
If you're really cheeky, you can tell the driver which way you want to go. So for my journey, and as it is nearly lower manhattan, i always ask for brooklyn bridge (no toll!)
i could go on for hours... i'm also going in september!!!!

The price for a taxi from JFK is fixed. However, remember that this is not the case when you go from New York to JFK!0

The Pod Hotel 230 East Street.
Thanks for your help.I booked thru BA for flights £288 return Manchester.Bargain!!
If i use my Mastercard OR VISA DEBIT for bills purchases etc will i be charged a fee?

aah.. East 51st and 3rd Ave... the taxi driver will probably go through the queen midtown tunnel, and then just go up a couple of blocks..
if you pay everything by mastercard / visa debit, you'll get charged 2.75% per transaction.. i take cash.. cash is king!0 -

It is now (or at least it was when I went in May!). $45 (plus tolls, I think) from JFK to Manhattan and vice versa in a yellow cab.0 -
