  • quickest way to get Tesco's attention is to shame them on twitter / facebook etc..

May be worth taking up disability issue with MP?
Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)

I think some of these rules go too far. Take the air (for tyres) at petrol stations, are these places supposed to now employ someone just to do this job for a customer? Or going by your first link remove the air system completely and deny it to everyone. Frankly that would be ludicrous but if I'm reading your link correctly that's what would have to happen.

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with things being made easier for disabled people but there has to be a cut off point.
    It's someone else's fault.

I think it's just common sense that they " make adjustments" as the link suggest, which to me just means saying , "yes ok, I can do that for you." It's not like their every waking hour will be filled with disabled people queuing up to get their air checked.. I can't comment on the rights or wrongs of the air for tyres, but
Why would they need to remove the air system?

I think it could be reasonable for a petrol station not to put air in someone's tyres.

    a. What if the car then had a puncture or lost pressure; would there be possible comeback?
    b. What if they inflated a tyre to the wrong pressure?
    c. What if they lost the dust caps?
    d. What if the air hose scratched the car?
    e. What if they noticed an issue with a tyre - would they be liable if they inflated it and helped the driver on their way?
    f. etc.

Also, in favour of the Tesco delivery person, they may have mis-used the word normal; rather meaning "not typical/usual" than anything derogatory, eg. "it's not the usual thing for me to unpack things".

I still think that they could (and should!) have unpacked the crate without question, but I think it is very unlikely that they would mock somebody for a disability.

Im surprised this hasnt resulted in Tescos removing the air pumps from fore courts.
  • It would be very interesting to hear the other side of the story I recon.

"Once a service provider has identified the physical features that may make it difficult for you to use their service, then the law gives them a choice. They can remove that feature, alter it, find a way of avoiding it or provide the service another way."

the other side of the story is that he admitted he refused to help me and he is now being retrained.. just like the other drivers who have mocked me and refused to help. They have also been retrained... I'm not making this up or exaggerating. This is the 3rs time I have had difficulties with rude drivers. The one a few months ago shouted at me and wanted me to pull my top up and prove to him that I have indeed got bowel surgery scars and hernias.. and argued I was too young to have disabilities.. he was really aggressive, and this one said I wasn't normal and laughed at me. none of this is acceptable!
Many thanks to all who contribute on MSE :)
