    Hello all

Well done to Dusty's son and lemanie's daughter!
Commiserations for Valli's daughter and dancemum's son, they must be so disappointed. I hope they can make something positive out of it and find a new path.

I have mum over for girls night tonight - we skipped last week as they had a clubcard deal for couple of nights in Brighton, had a fab time by all accounts. Also very pleased as mum had checkup with her consultant today (after last year full of pancreatic cancer and then the Whipple procedure at the end of the year after chemo, radio and general hard times - all successful and she's clear) - consultant has confirmed she's good to go after a gall bladder complication a few weeks ago; she has one more tablet to take every day for the rest of her life as a result but better that than cancer!! She now doesn't have to see him again for 6 months, so he's clearly pleased with her recovery :)
I want to do a nice meal tonight, but I'm skint so have to use what I have in. Need to get my creative cap on! I'll update later with my results - I may do my special homemade focaccia as a special treat - it's so calorific but absolutely delicious and we both love it! I have tons of houmous leftover from yesterday to go with it. hmm...

Congratulations to the Flyteens who got the grades they wanted; commiserations to those who didn't quite make it - it's so stressful, I remember being on Valium when I took my O Levels! You can study really hard, be brilliant at the subject, but if a bout of exam nerves hits, it can put you totally off your stroke.

Just out of interest how many sets of towels do you all have?

I got 2x2 nice bath sheets which I'm now rotating but there are quite a few older thinner ones in the cupboard taking up space I'm thinking of getting rid of them (probably via free cycle) as I don't use them but I can't quite bring myself to actually 'do it', for so long we had no nice towels...now we do I can't see to ditch the thin ones 'just in case'
If we're talking bath towels, we have two sets of two, (there's just me and Mr LW here of course) plus two older towels which are still actually in good condition that I keep for loaning to canine guests when the need arises; one of these is currently doubling as an ironing pad on the kitchen table, as neither of us can lift the actual ironing board at present. Our old thin towels went to Dog Rescue ages ago.

Re your old thin towels - take a deep breath, bag them up and take them to your nearest dog rescue charity.;)
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)

    .

His results were AS levels. He wants to do history at uni. Previously he wanted to do medicine but realised himself this wasn't possible. We find out tomorrow what his options are. I'm not sure if he will have to sit this year again. He also has quite a high grade (distinction *)in ICT Cambridge technicals whatever they are but nothing on paper until next year for it.

Tomorrow will be a big day in this household concerning both boys

We have popped in at my parents house as he was dreading telling them so that is over with.

Laundry brought in and bedding is whizzing around in the td. :o

Ds2 has been fairly calm for a change. He does have a few new books though.

Lil Miss Valli didn't get the grades. There will be minimal flying here today:(

I'm gutted; she worked SO hard.

I'm pleased to hear others have had better results - well done Flyteens!

ring the uni department tell them she got her results but lower than expected and they might still let her in.. do it quick.. they look at the initiative in having the thought to call.. nothing to lose :)

DD1 got good enough grades she has a EEE offer for Psychology. She has deferred her place and funding to 2015.

DD2 did as bad as possible.. she might have learned a valuable thing 2xU, E and B/Merit in a pointless useless waste of time subject.. She is starting all over again next month.. silly girl!

Dancemum, I hope tomorrow goes well for both boys - and for you of course x

Commiserations to the flykids who've had to change their plans, and congratulations to the ones whose results will take them where they wanted to go. Please remember (whichever group you fall into) that learning is a lifelong process and one set of exam results will not mean that you can never do anything different from what you had planned to do at this age - your inclinations and/or skill sets can change or be changed, nothing is ever set in stone, and you just have to be open to new opportunities as they arise. Personally I have always valued effort grades far more than exam results. Here's to successful and interesting lives for you all

We've been dodging showers today on a lovely long drive through glorious scenery. The house is still tidy and my meal planning has paid dividends, especially with judicious use of the SC. Brother and s-i-l seem quite content, which is good :)

Sod the nerves.. DD1 was in a room with around 30 other students who were out of the main exam hall due to a variety of reasons, she was then removed from that room because she couldn't stop being sick and it put the other students off and in a hot room a sick bucket doesn't smell so good.. bizarrely she was so stressed about the sicking she did the exam with no issue and got the B lol.

I couldn't figure the towel thing out until I decided to do it by colour and then it was dead simple. I buy them in pairs and whatever colour they start off with, everyone sticks with. Each person has a towel in use and a towel in the wash/spare. I use white, OH uses a pale grey stone coloured one (his choice), and the lodgers have cream, fawn and dark grey. And there's always a hand towel in the kitchen, shower room and bathroom.

The fabulous quality ones people leave behind become the 'spares' for lodger's guests. Currently, Spanish lodger's boyf is with us, so he has a stripy one some random person left behind a few years ago. Navy/Royal blue ones are at the chalet, as well as all the huge old now-fairly-thinish beach towels.

Anything stained or manky is relegated to the dog, and I never have enough once it starts raining in earnest in the autumn. Mrs Dog loves being towelled dry and we also need several to protect the carpets for when she arrives back from a lashing gale on The Hoe.
    Better is good enough.

Just about to head off to work but didn't want to read and run. I hope everyone feels better about not so good results this evening and has had a chance to develop a new plan. Congratulations to those who did well.
Exams are very stressful aren't they?
Have spent the day out today, having a walk around a local town which I've never been to. Very pretty :).
