Buy her a diary with a lock on it and leave her to it. Id have been absolutely mortified if my mum had read my diary as a teenager and we have had our ups and downs but are very close, loads of teenagers go through a stage where they are finding out about themselves and the world and they take any angst they have out on the people closest to them.

Setting boundaries for respect seems reasonable to me?

That works both ways though. If you want your daughter to trust and respect you, and to happily comply to the expectations you have of her, you need to show respect for her privacy.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.
