How can I ration toilet roll??

I'm not talking WW2 type rationing of one sheet per poo or anything but whenever my dsd visits we go through so much loo roll it's unbelievable. She's been here 2 days and have already gone through 2 rolls:eek:

I know it seems pathetic but 4 rolls will normally last a month, we can easily up that to 4 in the week she's here. I've spoken to OH (her dad) and he agrees that it's a massive over-use but won't speak to her as he doesn't want to upset her (TBH it seems like such a ridiculous conversation to try and have with a 5 year old!)

So, short of following her to the loo and actually handing her an appropriate amount of paper, how can I limit her usage? (I would just like to point out that my loo was actually blocked this morning due to the sheer volume of paper down there after she had 'been')

Haha i thought this was a joke

Why not just wash with soap and water? I had the shock of my life after taking a number 2 in indonesia to find they dont use toilet paper and i had to use the scoop :rotfl:very hygienic though.
  • My son blocked my mum's loo with too much loo paper and it cost me a pretty penny for a plumber. I don't see the problem re teaching your dsd on the proper usage of loo paper, lol

My son does the same so I just make comments about 'whose eating the toilet paper again' in a jokey way and useage goes down again for a week or two. Comment is made in public, and not aimed at anyone in particular.

You can also make comments about the toilet roll monster being on the loose.., too (like the sock monster) but possibly that's more of an in house joke.

No rationing necessary. I don't know why her dad thinks it's a ridiculous conversation to have, it's just part of toilet training really, this side of which she obviously hasn't been taught. Her dad (or you, depending on closeness) needs to teach her that she doesn't need quite as much TP to do a proper job.

Although...4 rolls a month for 2 people...that's really really not very much at all! I have to admit my eyebrows went up a bit at that one. :o

Have you tired squishing the roll? so it's slightly flat and doesn't roll as easy it makes it harder to pull more off.

Kids use a shocking amount of toilet roll :(

Make sure you squash/flatten the toilet roll a bit when you replace it, so that it isnt able to spin on the holder. And have a quiet word with her!

Buy cheaper bog roll so it doesnt cost you more or use washlets(flushable baby wipe type things) use one and done. Of course the use could be increased because your visitors have farmers. No amount of rationing will sort that.

Actually OP stated 4 rolls would usually last them one month, so for two people 1 roll a week.

I agree with other posters, it is his job as her Dad to teach toileting and that includes appropriate use of toilet roll. Or you could do so.

By appropriate I would aim for somewhere halfway between your expectations (because IMO it sounds like you use very little frankly) and what DSD is using now.

Ah yes sorry, I wrote 1 by mistake, I meant to write 4, which I find to be very little still.
