OP did state in post 1 that a blocked toilet did occur to DSD's usage recently.

Yeah, but there's blocked and then there's blocked so you need a plumber out....I don't think the situation is that serious.

Has anyone suggested getting one of those big round toilet paper dispensers that seem to be popular in workplaces? After she has torn off one piece, the end will disappear into the dispenser and probably take five minutes to retrieve. She'll soon get bored and make do with what she has got.

    Those things are soooo irritating!

    :).

What I was trying to say was that, if it was me, I would be a bit more generous with my toilet roll stock and my expectations of a small child. Just my view. I'll leave it at that.

It's not just about generosity with toilet roll stock though. It's about the child's actions in being wasteful and causing toilet blockages that could incur high costs to fix. Even small people of five can learn to use an appropriate amount if shown.

:rotfl: I have spent half a minute sometimes, trying to find the blasted end! Good idea though, although the little girl may give up altogether trying to find the end and walk away with a dirty bum!

At school we have toilet roll holders that only release one sheet at a time! They must save the school a fortune in toilet roll!

My DH uses too much loo roll, so I suggested he take his daily poo at work!

No, they don't. They were installed in my school at spring half term. Now everybody removes sheet after sheet in an attempt to get enough to do the same job three or four slightly larger pieces did. Particularly in the ladies', as, with fifty odd adult females, there are always a significant number who require more paper on any given week out of four.

The bursar is not best pleased that the expense of buying and fitting these things, plus the cost of the different paper stock, means its actually costing more to see more paper being used.

In a home environment, I'd add that the super posh paper blocks very easily, as it's so thick, it doesn't break down in water as easily as standard bog roll. Swapping to a slightly cheaper roll can stop it happening very easily.

    Install a bidet.......:wall:

I have seriously never heard of toilet roll rationing before.......and to block a toilet would take more toilet roll than this little girl is using.

    Jeez.

I totally can see what you mean, blocked as in have to pay for a plumber and blocked as in deal-able yourself.

Still though I think the latter is something very unpleasant to have to deal with and a problem.. and at the end of the day is preventable so why shouldn't OP educate DSD about how much to use.

Op it might be worth checking whether this is a case of some form of ocd? Toilet roll overuse is a very common one? If this is the case then the approach might need to be different and should definitely involve both parents. Do you notice anything else that might suggest she is unduly or obsessively concerned with hygiene, or anything else for that matter?

This might not be the issue at all but I thought it worth mentioning since no one else has.

Is one of these of interest to the OP?

Very strange thread. I understand the need to be concerned about a possible blockage but monitoring the extra TP used when she is around???

I am pregnant and nip to the loo for little more than a dribble most days, I must be using more TP than ever but I had never even noticed..... why would you??
