I think a toilet roll per day for three people is normal not excessive. In my house we use at least one per day. If the OPs household usually uses 4 per month all you can assume is that they are either out all the time or they sometimes dont use the loo roll when they go to the loo.
If shes worried about the loo getting blocked then all she needs to do is ask the child to use less and get cheaper thinner rolls as well. I mean its not rocket science is it.
All supermarkets have budget rolls and places like Jack Fultons and Home bargains.

Although, like previous posters have said, that amount of paper is not going to block the toilet,
But we don't know what else has gone down that toilet pan recently, or what state the pipes are in ...

    as above.

The OP has my sympathy. DS3 was always a very fastidious bottom wiper (probably still is for all I know) demanding I should wipe his bottom even after he'd started school. When I declined (after suitable instruction), his technique consisted of grabbing a large handful, waving it in the general direction of his posterior, and dropping it down the loo before grabbing another several handfuls.

My instruction of 'wipe, fold, wipe again, repeat as necessary' - you'd have thought I was suggesting using his fingers and licking them afterwards!

Consequently a large plunger met our blocked toilet bowl frequently. Fortunately we never needed a plumber, BUT if he'd been using my ensuite (from which boys are banned) then we probably would have done, because the drainage pipes are 'temperamental'.

Once he was at secondary school, I decided he was old enough to wield the plunger himself. Which he did, although never voluntarily, and strangely enough the blockages became less frequent.

Now, I think five may be a bit young to be wielding the plunger, BUT maybe Daddy could show her what happens / has to be done when we use too much loo paper?

That's true Sue, but I'm talking about toilet paper alone....it isn't the little girls fault about what else might have gone down the loo....unless she's shoving other stuff down there too, but I'm sure he OP would have mentioned this if it was the case.

@dandelion, totally agree with all you say. We get 9 rolls from B&M for £1.99 and it's good quality. When you consider it's £4-£5 for a named equivalent, it's a no brainer really.

Erm, well, there's likely to be a poo in there already for a start. And it the size of children's poos don't necessarily correlate to their stature.

I'm also in shock about the 4 rolls a month LOL.

We get through loads. My OCD means I grab some to wipe the seat before I sit down (even if it's not been used all night and there are only 2 of us in the house), and I have to have an even number of sheets in my last tear-off so if I've grabbed some, I'll take 2 bits at the end just to make sure it was even. Yes, I know...

And I like to be clean! I dread to think what some people's underwear looks like lol ;)

I just stock up on 12 rolls at a time for around £3 (when reduced) and shove it in the bottom of a wardrobe. I despise running low/out of loo roll.

Can't really understand people rationing it. I know it's a moneysaving site, but we're probably talking £1-2 max if you buy something reasonably priced!

Ok so I wasn't really expecting this amount of replies to a simple question, very different attitudes from each poster!

For the poster who said it was weird I monitored the loo roll usage (sorry don't know how to multi-quote)....I don't monitor it, it is very apparent. The morning she arrived I had just replaced it to a new one (I am the only person in the house who does this, OH just starts a new one then puts it on the cistern grr). The next morning I had to replace it again and that had gone by the next morning.

To the poster who said she can't possibly use enough to block the toilet I beg to differ. I have just prevented another potential blockage after going to get my son after his nap and found her wiping with 7 squares of triple velvet (other brands are available) in EACH HAND. So that would explain where its been going lol!!!

I have never said that this was a massive problem, just that I would like ideas on how to limit usage as 1) Unblocking my loo is a massive PITA and 2) It is becoming expensive.

I know it seems weird that we would think she would get upset about a conversation over loo roll but she is quite a sensitive soul and gets embarrassed really easily. Toilet habits are one of those things that she gets embarrassed by. She is also a bit of an emotional wreck since she was uprooted from all her family and friends 2 years ago without the chance to say goodbye to any of them, this set her back and she started wetting the bed despite having been dry for nearly 2 years. This is another reason we wanted to tread carefully and try to be sensitive towards her.

As it happens things seemed to have found their own course and finding her with that much loo roll has enabled me to explain how much would be better. I have never followed her to the toilet and had no intention of ever doing so, just happens that she hates to talk about 'dirty' things but is happy to p with the door open lol!!

And she is very nearly 6 if anyone is wondering how she was dry at night for nearly 2 years :D

If she is an 'emotional wreck' about other things, that could be affecting her bowels, so, seriously, I would just let it be.

She's very young, and will probably grow out if it. If you are worried about the plumbing, then get cheap toilet paper, as it disintegrates more quickly.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

Obviously! ;) The way I read Sue's post though was that she meant other stuff apart from the usual! Sorry if I read that wrong. :)

You opened and counted the sheets of toilet roll she was holding?!

We're all different. We can get through a roll a day, other people will make it last a month. I'd personally not have said anything and would just make sure I had enough so I could replace it when low.

PS If worrying about blocking loo, just tell her to flush after putting several bits of paper down the loo, then flush again when finished. I'd rather that than someone tell me I'm using too much (for them, not for me!).

I think the OCD thing has a lot to do with using a lot of toilet roll, maybe not in the little girls case, but in general. I too suffer from OCD and use a lot of toilet roll, we go through about a roll roughly every 2 days. My Mam always commented (when I lived at home) on how much I used, but it's the need to feel clean combined with some of the things Jo has mentioned above.

Even with using a lot of toilet roll, we have never had a blockage yet.

Well done to those who only use 4 rolls in a month! :T
