Also, when did Halloween become an excuse for adults to act like children and for normally sensible women to [STRIKE]act like they are in Mean Girls and dress like slappers[/STRIKE] wear creative costumes?

I don't really 'get' Halloween, especially for adults.
Some parts of our business decorated their offices and dressed up. It seems to be getting a bigger thing each year.
As a child, we got our mums to carve a pumpkin for us some years, but that was it - no trick or treating.Early retired - 18th December 2014

Hello,
I am up for all sorts of fun, including Halloween as I think any excuse for a celebration is a good thing..... But I don't like the commercialisation of it all. The only thing you need to buy is a pumpkin for the window, all the rest should be home made to add to the creativity of the occasion. I have toyed with the idea of growing my own pumpkin to save pennies, but as I only spend £2 a year, it is probably not worth it, especially as I hate the taste of it.Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D0 -

Way to go Mrs E's dad. Very impressed. What did he cook/demonstrate?Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0 -
A delicious looking Wellington made with pork fillet and black forest ham
Golly gosh, where did Saturday go?
Had a lie in, went for groceries (had to go to 3 supermarkets to find a free range chicken!), hoovered, took out the rubbish and recycling, then removed the old carpet and underlay from our spare room. After that, Mrs E's Dad came round to serve as our laminate consultant, we should have no problems doing what we're planning in the living room. Always a man for a shortcut, he suggested we move my 1/4 ton fish tank without emptying it, that idea was not well received :rotfl:
A good day for matched bets, Mrs E and I made more than the cost of our weekly groceries today :j
Now I have 30 minutes to price laminate, measure the living room and get ready before going out for dinner. Hope everyone else is having a good Saturday?0 -
What a productive day. So many people post about what they're eating and I love it
. I really fancy pork Wellington - I've never thought of trying it with pork. Have you used loin medallions?
We had laminate flooring put down 12.5 years in the hall, TV room, dining room and conservatory and given its had traffic from kids, dogs, parties, life in general, it has served us far better better than carpet
Have a good evening.
