Sell it! :j:j:j:j2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Just don't drop it :eek::eek::eek:
Haha
It's now safely nestled in a rigid whisky box, on its side in the wardrobe, our bedroom is the coolest room of the house.
I would love to sell it, but it is apparently very difficult to sell a single bottle of wine. In fairness, I doubt the storage conditions have been ideal, it's been sitting next to the washing machine for 2 years getting a daily shoogle
So, I can either hang on to it for another 10 years (if it's £500+ now, I'm sure someone is more likely to take a punt on it when it's 20+ years old), or...... drink it
Perhaps this is worth further investigation. If nothing else, it's got me thinking about good wine in general. I'd give serious thought to buying some redonkulously good wine and leaving it in a bond so that I can show the provenance etc. and flog it in future. While genuinely fine wine is just that, a lot of the value is snobbery. Perhaps a case or two of some highly regarded 1er cru wine would be more useful than money in the bank?0 -

OMG !!!
I have read of people who invest in wine - just shows that it could pay off one day.
Maybe you could drink your bottle of wine on a very, very special occasion.
Another thing people invest in is art - perhaps that's another thing for you to think about!Early retired - 18th December 2014

Both very rocky roads, unless you really know what you are doing. The press is full of stories about people being ripped off, investing in wine, and losing their shirts. I do like the idea of it though, driving around france and italy, buying fine wine.Mortgage £242500 on completion
FD CC 11/2014 £5900 (£3900 after BT)
FD loan Approx £5700
Deeply depressing total - £2541000 -
Don't worry blackste, talk of investing in wine is largely cloud talk. If I'm ever rich enough to consider such a thing, it would be specifically chosen vintages purchased through a reputable broker and held in their bond with insurance etc. Worst case scenario of this sort of investment? Poorly chosen wine and a very expensive knees up
As we're talking ££££ a case for fine wine of that calibre, I've got a good few years (decades?) before I need to 'worry' about it.0 -
We only ever get the wine on offerBe who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

If you get tempted to drink it do tell us if it is worth the price!! Am astonished a bottle could reside in your pantry (thinking Downtown Butlers pantry) and be so expensive!Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0 -
I confess, when I was in my 20s, I worked in export finance, and I had a trip abroad to Portugal, on business. There was a bit of a traffic accident, and I ended up picking glass out of my driver's hair  so the firm I was visiting presented me with a bottle of port, 1937 vintage! I didn't know anything about storage or selling on
but when my niece was born, I opened it and shared it with some relatives, and it was horrible :rotfl: Good luck with yours, ed!

Haha - a good story to bring me back down to earth
Sitting at my living room table trying to work from home. The gentle strains of Classic FM are being somewhat drowned out by the screams of a toddler who has been yelling 'MUH-MMMY' for the last 5 minutes
Oh thank goodness, he seems to have been convinced to go to nursery.0
