Am I the only one who thinks that word sounds a little, well, seedy :p?

It may be technically correct but... it does sound like a slightly dubious fetish .

Oduliet, I have enjoyed reading your posts! Enjoy your date with the Brit! You do have a bit of a romantic view of us as you can see from some of the more snarky responses you have got, but lots of us are lovely and yes I do think we are culturally and personality wise, often quite different to the USA. Your guy sounds pretty young - so just take it easy and don't scare him off with talk of your ovaries ;-) (joke!).
When I was young (grade 5 & 6) we moved from the UK to West Chester PA and we used to take all our visitors to Lancaster, it's such a gorgeous area, with all the farmland and the Amish and that awesome outlet mall!! We visited again a couple of years ago and the trainers (sneakers) that I bought there have recently fallen apart so I think it's time to go back!

OP is going to be very disappointed if her idea of British life is lying on a sofa in a cottage, reading a Jane Austen novel in front of an open fire.

Actually my life does consist of that, albeit a farm cottage in Scotland that was built while Jane Austen was alive, but I have the open fires and over 2000 assorted books... some of which are Jane Austen.

Which reminds me, I need hubby to chop some wood and make me a cup of tea :)
There is no shame in not knowing; the shame lies in not finding out.

Well stop reading the thread then.

Do you have nothing better to do than comment on threads that you think are a wind up???

I am as entitled to express an opinion as you are! At least I did not use a stroppy tone.:(

What do you mean at least you didn't use a stroppy tone.?

Your comment was very hurtful to the OP who is already upset.

Well I have open fires in my house still although I only use them on high days and holidays as they are too much aggro and not very efficient. I may well make tea and scones and read Jane Austen but on the Kindle.

Please come back and tell us how it goes. Have fun.

Just ignore the idiots who have been rude to you. As you can see, there are nasty people in Britain too.

This forum is generally very helpful, but unfortunately there are idiots here just like there are throughout the world.

Please let us know how the lunch date goes.

um...think you will find I am not actually an idiot sweetcheeks, when you consider the actual definition of such a thing:An idiot, dolt, or dullard is an intellectually disabled person, or someone who acts in a self-defeating or significantly counterproductive way.

Merely stating facts that this thread seems a bit unlikely does not make me an idiot.Heaven forbid opinions are shared,eh?
