You live in a lovely part of the states, and based on my experiences travelling with work to the states I would say:
Be careful how you approach him you may have to make him think its idea to ask you out, American women can be very forward especially those i met in New York, those ladies don't hang about!, I was initially shocked when a woman strode straight up to me at a conference and announced she wanted to take me to dinner and was very clear what the pudding was, after being asked out another 4 times that day I realised the dating scene is very different, in all my life I have only been approached once in the UK.0 -
By all means show your interest and pave the way, see if he fancies coffee etc - but do try not to appear pushy! Some American girls I've met don't quite get the 'reserved' nature of many Brits and steamroller in. Bloody terrifying.0

If you showed me your tea towel on the first date i would be running out that door pretty damn quick...It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
Very few British men are 'raised around royalty', and the ones I've met who were (and I've met quite a few) are, in general, complete knobs who treat women like accessories and with very little respect.
Expecting a guy to treat you like a princess because he is British is going to lead to a whole world of disappointment.
Couldn't agree more.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.
Before I found wisdom, I became old.0 -
British men are raised around royalty and know how to treat a lady. We all grown up wanting to be a princess and who else could treat you like a princess other than a British guy? It is in their blood to be the perfect gentleman.
You are joking! Not all of us are subservient, forelock-tugging royalists!
You Americans can have them!Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)0 -

Sorry to bust your pretty balloon, princess, - but there are far more frogs than princes here in the UK, just as there are in PA - in fact you've got more brahmas in Boston than you'll find over here - the cut glass accent is being overwhelmed by the Brooklyn patois!
I have three sons who were born here in the UK, and a daughter who now lives in USA....and although my boys do have good manners, I've experienced far betters manners from the CT boys than I now experience over here.
Don't build him up onto a pedestal - he's just an ordinary chap who should be good to his mum!0 -

Statistically, there's about a 1 in 1,000,000 chance that this is true. Same with Americans who claimed to be pals with JFK. The overwhelming majority of Brits have never even seen a royal in the flesh, never mind been raised around them.
If by some remote chance he is, run a mile. Very distantly, through marriage, I know a couple of youngsters who are the same age as Princes William and Harry, and who have socialised with them on occasion. Wedding and christening guest level, and the associated laddish celebrations. Their behaviour and attitudes are not something I would be proud of in my own kids, and very far from the humble, well-bred, polite image that 'children of royalty' suggests. If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
This has to be a wind up, no-one is like this surely?!
The whole drama about being raised by royalty gave it away...bet its someone who works nights, hence the late night posts.
Flippin' hope it isn't true!!!poor bloke lmao!0 -
The OP is joking. This is a fun thread, no-one is taking it seriously, the OP knows that she is living in a fairy tale and hopes that she has found her prince charming.
really? so the OP doesn't really have a union jack teatowel and a stack of jaffa cakes in her cupboard because she's a self-confessed anglophile? So she doesn't really think all British blokes are classier than all American blokes?
I suspect she does.
And to be honest, these stereotypes and generalisations get right up my nose.
OP blokes are blokes the world over - you don't need to learn anything in advance about his culture or his home town. if you like him ask him if he'd like to go for a coffee with you, and then ask him about his home, ask him about his family, let the conversation flow. Don't try to impress him by spouting on about the history of Winchester or soccer, thats just going to make you look like a bit of a stalker.
I'm sure if he's a nice bloke he'll be just as happy finding out about your life, your family/friends/interests etc, you know, in a conversation over coffee which flows because you're both interested in each other, even if its just as friends.0 -
I just asked my British husband to treat me like a princess, once he had stopped laughing and asking what planet I was from he farted on me...There is no shame in not knowing; the shame lies in not finding out.0
