I got back home late last night so glad to be home but to be honest feel confused about what I'm supposed to do. When I was admitted I was told I needed an urgent abdominal scan due to how distended my stomach was, it was booked in for 4 yesterday, at 3 a nurse popped her head in and said the scans been cancelled and the doctor ( different ) said as long as I could keep food down for 30 minutes I could go home. Managed to eat only a little (even though I'd not eaten anything in over 24 hours, they didn't want me to eat before the now cancelled scan ) before I felt extremely uncomfortable, in pain and the effort of sitting up and eating left me breathless. Told the nurse this but was still sent home as the only thing they seemed bothered about was whether I was sick or not! I just got my stuff and left, no painkillers, no instruction what I should do, nothing :( I just feel absolutely horrendous, in so much pain and just walking from the bedroom to bathroom leaves me struggling to catch my breath, really feel like they should have prepared me more for this and how bloody awful it makes you feel. I can't possibly go to work feeling like this, I can't even get any of my clothes on, nothing fits!

Wow, choc your hospital are really not good on the whole giving info to patients thing,

Firstly - forget about work, at least for today. You're poorly, that means you get to stay at home in your pjs and watch daytime TV.

Secondly - are you feeling any better at all? If not, please call them again. Were you admitted on a general gynae ward? They're not always the best at dealing with the intricacies of IVF issues. Can you (or your OH, mum, mate, etc) call the clinic and get their advice?

Am so sorry you're feeling so awful. I remember that 'being crushed by own insides' feeling well. I wouldn't wish OHSS on my worst enemy (well, maybe my worst enemy... but none of the others!)

    choc, that's terrible!

OHSS is serious. Go to your GP when you can and get signed off work. You need time to recover. Don't even think about work.

Get OH or someone to go the nearest supermarket/Matalan etc and get you some cheap tracksuit bottoms (with an elasticated, drawstring waist) about 3-4 sizes bigger than normal. I lived in those for the couple of days post-EC and I didn't even have OHSS!

If I remember rightly, serious danger signs are being unable to keep food down, and not peeing. If either start, get yourself to A&E.

Drink Lucozade Sport or similar - sports drinks aren't carbonated (avoid fizzy drinks) but are better for hydration than water alone and will also get some calories into you at the same time.

Definitely phone your IVF Clinic for more advice and also ask if they'll scan you. Shortness of breath is generally included on symptom lists for "severe" OHSS as one of the distinguishing features from mild/moderate - they should be helping too!

Choc I've been quietly watching and just wanted to say hugs. I had a cycle cancelled out of the blue at EC, and was told when I woke up from the general while I was still woozy and blind without my glasses. Didn't even know who told me. It was one of the worst days in the whole thing for me. You get so excited, so many plans made and its a horrible come down. I cried more that day then through most of the whole process, I freaked my husband out I think by how much I fell apart.

But 4 blasts is amazing. FET transfers are easier on you and it's better that they wait until you are ready for the pregnancy to give those babies the best chance. I know it's easy for me to say, but my next cycle after the cancelled one worked. It will happen.... hugs to everyone.

I'm sorry to hear that you had your cycle cancelled Choc, but as others have said, 4 blasts is AMAZING! And they are banked until your body is feeling better, FET cycles are apparently easier, so you can try again when your ready. Put your feet up and eat some chocolate!

Sorry to hear that your having to deal with that situation Shrimpy, its so hard trying to pull yourself into a smile at times inst it? *hugs*

My meeting with the adoption lady went well, we are approved to proceed to step 1! :) There are many reasons I think we'll not pass, I have a history of depression and anxiety, have little experience looking after children and have very little in the way of a support network. We are going to look into doing some volunteering and hope that helps!

    Hi ladies,
I hope it’s ok me posting here. I’ve been reading through this and the TTC thread for a while and it’s great to know we’re not alone but I’ve been putting off posting on either, as it’s kind of admitting that things really aren’t right.

So we first started TTC about 7 years ago. We tried unsuccessfully for about 9 months before I got a job and we decided to stop until I would be eligible for maternity pay. Two years later we thought we’d just see what happened and we started NTNP (to be fair for the 2 years in between we weren’t always particularly good at the preventing bit anyway). Over 4 years later and still no BFP.

I think we’re going to go and see the doctor asap, but I think I’m just scared to know.

I've been reading through a bit and just wanted to say I'm really sorry you're cycle was cancelled choc. Look after yourself and I hope you're feeling better soon.

Pickle - I volunteer at Brownies and it's so much fun. When I first emailed them they were so excited as they were desperate for volunteers. When I lived the other side of the country I volunteered at Beavers and it was similar, often people would come to drop their kids off and be told they either had to stay themselves or take the kids back home, as they didn't have enough adults to go round. It's also a good way to get to know more people locally and to increase your support network.

pickle - a friend who adopted volunteered at a nursery near work. It's one that opens pretty early so she was able to volunteer for an hour first thing before coming to work.

cyantist - welcome, and hope your stay is short. :)
