Hi all, I think it's time I posted on this thread. I was hoping some of your ladies may be able to give me some advice.
We have been TTC a year this month. I was off the pill for approx 3-4 months before we started TTC. We've had no success. I've had blood tests which confirm that I am ovulating via my doctor. I now take my BBT which is continuing to show ovulation and we have timed everything perfect for several months now.
OH had a semen analysis (ordered via our doctor) which came back as no sperm present so a repeat was requested after a few weeks wait. He got the results today and was told that it was 'abnormal' and that the Doctor will call him on Monday to discuss. I am hoping she will refer us to the fertility specialist as she said she would do this once his second SA was back. I am quite confident no sperm was found again. He already has two biological sons so obviously produces sperm. Google tells me that a blockage can be caused in the ducts that stop sperm getting to were it needs to be, which I think may be what he has? The experiences I have read of others and the experience of my friends is always where the women isn't ovulating so I wondered if any of you have experiences of an issue with the sperm and what happened? I am one of these people that likes to understand what is/could happen and to be informed.
Thank you0 -
Hi PrettyKittyKat,
I'm afraid I don't have any experience with a no sperm present SA result so not sure I can be much help, but didn't want to leave your post unanswered either.
From my understanding there are surgical procedures to retrieve sperm which can be combined with IVF or ICSI - although you probably already know that from google. Our experience was no identified problems with ovulation from me and a low motility SA from my OH, and we were recommended ICSI - although OHs sperm quality had improved by the time we had egg collection so we ended up going for normal IVF.
I'm the same as you in wanting to be informed of all possible next steps so understand where you are coming from! Hopefully you have been referred to the fertility specialist now and will get some answers soon xx0 -
Hey, sorry I totally missed your reply Kate5555. Things have progressed since my last post. My OH has partial testicular failure so has a very very low sperm count. We have self referred to a private fertility clinic (not eligible under NHS). I've had my initial scan and blood test and hope to have ICSI towards the end of the year.
Just in the process of organising some blood tests and STI tests needed.
This thread hasn't been active for a long time but hoping that if it's back on the first page there may be some more activity0 -
If any past posters happen to still be lurking, or any new posters who have been through treatment....
For those that were self-funded. Did you have the cystic fibrosis test? If yes did you pay for this or arrange it via the NHS?
We need to arrange this test. In the consultation we were told the NHS were unlikely to do it but the follow up letter says to see if the nhs will do it first. I was just nosey and wondering the likelihood before calling!0 -
I don;t know if anyone is still lurking on here?
We've been TTc for 17 months now, and I've honestly lost all hope of seeing those 2 little lines naturally. We've had tests done & there's nothing wrong with either of us, which makes it slightly more frustrating.
Our next step would be going to the doctors for a referral, but what would happen on those next steps? Would we be offered IVF or IUI?0 -
Would be grateful for recommendations for ivf clinics abroad with good results for over 40s.
Has anyone had ivf abroad?0
