I have just seen a deal on www.e2save.com how genuine is this company, its only asking for £15 - £20 a month for a phone and a FREE GIFT of a dell laptop. As I'm not that bothered what my phone looks like, I think this is a fantastic deal...but worried its too good too be true!!!!! Does anybody recommend this company?

I'm coming to the end of an 18month contract with Orange (Dolphin 35) and i'm unsure if I should carry on with them or not. I pay £35 a month with them, plus my £6 insurance, although I rarely pay less than £46 ( I use hardly any minutes and around 600 texts). Apparently they don't charge VAT unless you go over your allocated minutes etc. If I make a call to an 0800 minute, which isn't inclusive, i'm instantly charged VAT on my whole bill.

Now, I know if I stay with Orange, I can go down the roots and get myself a good deal via retentions. However, due to not using a lot of minutes and a lot of texts, I like the look of T-Mobiles flext packages. Plus, i'm liking the idea of getting a free gift, a console preferably, which I wouldn't get from Orange directly.

Sorry for rambling, but my question is: Should I stick with Orange, get myself a decent deal via retentions, save some money and then buy myself a console if need be. Or pack it in with Orange and go 3rd party with T-Mobile, get myself a deal I like, plus a free gift.

Increasingly I have noticed in the mobile phone industry in general, there now seems increasingly less attractive cash back deals and the move now seems to be more towards free gifts like play stations, Laptops, TVs, etc.

Given that on average cash backs were around about £150-400 per deal, these free gifts are also worth around this sum of money (depending on what item it is, e.g. CPW do Dell laptops which itself costs about £300 or so)

so what's the real deal? what's in it for these retailers to play this game in another way?

A free gift may cost £150 in the shops to purchase, for example, however it will cost the company less to purchase that item as they're obviously buying bulk/wholesale. So it costs them less to give you the gift that is perceived to be £150 in value for the customer.

Also, with a lot of mobile retailers collapsing, many of the cashback deals were unsustainable and generally the public has become wary of 'cash' cashback deals.

Things have become much more realistic in my opinion now. Gone are the crazy days of 90%+ cashback deals.

but even with lets say £150 worth of gifts each, why not just continue with the £150 cash back deals? Its the same thing isn't it?

Generally speaking, the £150 worth of gifts is received at the beginning of the contract. The £150 cash back dribbles through (if you're lucky) through the life of the contract.

I know I would sooner have the £150 value earlier, while the company is still trading.

Of course, the gift has got to be something you want.
  • Is it a good idea to get a free Playstation 3 with a new mobile phone contract?

Has anyone ever done this? and are the PS3's brand new and working etc? And does anyone know where to get a deal with around a £20 month contract, and a PS3?

doubtful, a ps3 is about 360 quid so even on a 18 month contract it would cost them cash after providing the phone and talk time.
