i would avoid dating sites, theyre generally rubbish, your in scotland ?

there are plenty of groups in your area on

    http://www.meetup.com/

type in your location and search your interests, join a group that shares your interests and meet people who share your interests, that way you can meet people and talk about things that youre both interested in ?

this is a particularly well organised one

Im not sure how a career can be called baggage.

It can if it's working for Easyjet :)
  • Dating is overrated, in particular meeting up with strangers via dating websites. You can't be yourself sitting opposite a total stranger.

Best try not to put pressure on yourself and just learn to enjoy life as it is. Join a dance class, Salsa or if you must-Ceroc. Please don't see it as a dating pool but it's a great way of making new friends.

This thread's in danger of turning into something you'd find on mumsnet!
Since when has female been offensive?
Does this mean we need to start relabeling all 'female toilet' door signs?!
I can't keep up with all the daft feminazi trends these days!

As for the original question, I know my mum has met quite a few people in the past from her social group 'Spice' where you tend to bond over various activities. Have you thought about trying something like that? There's someone out there for everyone :)

"Female" is not offensive in the slightest, as an adjective. (A female toilet is absurd- toilets are neither male nor female. There are women's and men's toilets.) As a noun it is ridiculous, like defining someone as "a slim" or "a grumpy".

    From http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/females:

Female which is applied to plants and animals as well as to human beings, is a biological or physiological descriptor, classifying individuals on the basis of their potential or actual ability to produce offspring in bisexual reproduction.

    Not exactly flattering, is it?
They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.
  • Well I'm in your age group & I'm just home after having 2 dates today and I've another lined up tomorrow. It's all a numbers game. I keep first dates short & sweet.

Ignore anyone who says ignore dating sites. Make you own mind up. It's worked for lots of couples.

To me it sounds like you are over analysing. Keep your profile concise but don't just list a string of cliches.

One of my photos is of me doing a specific hobby in a specific place. I don't even mention the hobby in my profile but for those who know, it's a significant achievement. I think that photo generates most of the messages I receive.

I can't really comment on your ability (or lack of ability) to make a girl/female/lady laugh. Just be yourself. A guy/male/man who tries and fails to be funny is just embarrassing.
  • You dont sound like a dating site type of person. That's your problem I think.
Cogito ergo sum. Google it you lazy sod !!

There are a few decent meet up groups in Glasgow, in fact there are tons of them (Im not in Glasgow, but its my nearest big city).

I think thats a much better way of getting to meet new people than on POF or on match and theres a variety of different groups.
