  • In this thread I have been accused of having a 'temporal rift'. You're right.

And I am a 'troll'. What else would you expect having a 30K bill hanging over your head.

What I have to do is keep a level head. Thank you all for your suggestions about the phone data usage. The phone's on/off button has ceased. As previously mentioned, I have contacted the network associated with Orange which is At&T. Am waiting for a reply.

Between times, yes I am bouncing off the walls with anxiety and worry.

So once again, why won't/can't you say what your phone says you have used?

Without this info no-one can help.

Well that's totally understandable and I'm sure no one here envies your situation but unfortunately a great many posters do troll with similar stories and many of us spend our time trying to help so when a question that keeps being asked is ignored then we start to wonder if it's real.

So it's been establised and hopefully to your satisfaction that a phone can use up data regardless of what you're using the phone for, it's certainly possible that apps and the phone itself might be updating several hundred megabytes of data in the background without you knowing.

So can you answer the question posed numerous times which is what does your phone's data usage record show?

  • As previously mentioned, I just don't know what the data usage record/balance counter is. The on/off button isn't working so I can't get into the phone until it is repaired.

What type of phone is it?
  • Thanks Spannerzone but I also posed another question which was -

Can anyone tell me if 99,999,940 bytes (95.3673MB) are the maximum able to be detailed at any one time?

Has anyone receive this sort of information on their bill?

krisdorey - The phone is an iphone 4.

there was something on watchdog last year or year before about people getting bills from I think orange for thousands from using smart phones with internet roaming charges when abroad and 1 was for 22k and the final bill in the end was like £600 or £58 but I cannot remember the whole story. And maybe huge bills are normal at first then they change the amount after they re check the bill.

I don't see why the power button's failure is preventing you from turning the phone on. Just plug it into a charger and, as usual, your iPhone will turn itself on. Then please tell us what your data counter says, which we have all been asking so many times.

Go into Settings, Mobile, Mobile Data Usage, Current Period Roaming. What does it say?

You seem to be asking lots of questions while evading the constructive questions that have been put to you.

    That's convenient lol.

lulubelle, as others have said (several times), there could be a variety of reasons why the bill has that value. It could something to do with the Canadian phone company and their limits, whether that's a technical limit or even something as simple as the invoicing system will not support 9 digits.
But you are getting hung up on the wrong thing. Stop trying to work out the precise nature of that value and try to work out whether the overall amount is correct and what you had done which caused the phone to use that much data. The answer is probably very simple, but without a few salient facts you're not going to get anywhere!

How much data does your phone say you used?
    Were you running iOS7?
What apps do you have on your phone?
How does your phone receive emails?
Was location services switched on or off?
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?
